Kuwait, July 8 (KUNA) – Acting Dean of Admission and Registration at Kuwait University, Dr. Fadel Aziz, announced that the minimum percentage required to apply to the University is 70% for Science graduates and 78% for Arts graduates. He noted that some colleges require higher application percentages in accordance with their specific admission criteria and academic requirements.
In an interview with the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), conducted following the announcement of secondary school examination results and the commencement of the admission period for prospective students, Dr. Aziz addressed a series of questions regarding the University's admission policies.
Dr. Aziz confirmed that the minimum application thresholds for the current academic year are 70% for Science graduates and 78% for Arts graduates. He emphasized that these represent the minimum eligibility requirements for submitting an application, while certain colleges maintain higher admission standards based on their individual regulations.
He also stressed that meeting the minimum application requirement does not guarantee admission to all academic programs, as admission decisions are based on competitive selection, available capacity, and the specific requirements of each college.
Regarding the University's admission requirements, Dr. Aziz explained that Kuwait University follows annually approved admission regulations. Among the key conditions is that applicants must be secondary school graduates within the designated admission categories, and no more than four academic semesters (or two academic years) should have elapsed since their graduation.
He advised prospective students and their parents to carefully review the Admission and Transfer Regulations Guide, available through the website of the Deanship of Admission and Registration, to ensure they fully understand the admission requirements, available programs, and application procedures before beginning the registration process.
Addressing how Kuwait University's admission policies reflect labour market demands, Dr. Aziz stated that labour market requirements are a fundamental consideration in developing the University's admission and transfer policies. This approach aims to ensure that university graduates possess the qualifications needed to support national development and meet the workforce requirements of various sectors.
He explained that Kuwait University coordinates with its Planning Sector and the Civil Service Commission to direct admission policies toward academic disciplines and programmes that correspond with labour market demands and contribute to preparing qualified national professionals.
Dr. Aziz stated that the Deanship of Admission and Registration assists students in selecting suitable academic majors by organizing educational exhibitions and awareness events.
He invited secondary school students and their parents to visit Kuwait University's pavilion at The Avenues Mall beginning Thursday, where they can receive first-hand information about admission procedures, available academic programmes, and registration mechanisms.
He added that these exhibitions are further enhanced through the participation of external entities such as the Civil Service Commission and the Public Authority for Manpower, which provide guidance on labour market needs and answer questions about employment prospects associated with various academic disciplines. This enables students to make more informed academic and career decisions.
The Deanship also remains available during official working hours to respond to inquiries, whether through in-person visits or via its official email channels, ensuring students receive the necessary support throughout the admission process.
Responding to a question about the role of the equivalent GPA in admissions, Dr. Aziz explained that the equivalent GPA is one of the primary admission criteria for most colleges at Kuwait University. Priority is generally given to applicants with the highest equivalent GPA, calculated according to the University's approved methodology.
He noted that performance in academic aptitude tests plays an important role in calculating the equivalent GPA for several colleges, thereby increasing students' competitiveness for admission into their preferred programs
He also clarified that the College of Science and the College of Law apply different admission criteria, with selection based primarily on the applicant's secondary school percentage rather than the equivalent GPA.
Dr. Aziz highlighted that Kuwait University has introduced several electronic services over recent years to simplify admission and registration procedures. These include the ability to submit admission applications electronically, allowing students to complete the process efficiently and monitor their application status online.
The University has also implemented electronic admission confirmation procedures and assigned dedicated email addresses for each relevant department to respond to student inquiries and provide official support, facilitating easier communication and ensuring access to accurate information.
Regarding how students and parents can benefit from the University's Admission Campaign Exhibition, Dr. Aziz explained that visitors can attend the exhibition at The Avenues Mall from 9 to 11 July, where they can ask questions regarding admission requirements, application procedures, registration processes, and available academic programs.
He added that the exhibition also provides an opportunity to learn about labour market needs through the participation of relevant government agencies, helping students and parents connect academic choices with future employment opportunities.
Dr. Aziz stated that the Deanship's Admissions and Registration team plays a direct role during the exhibition by answering questions from students and parents and providing guidance on admission and registration procedures.
The team also offers practical advice to help applicants better understand the process, avoid common application errors, and select appropriate academic pathways in accordance with the University's admission regulations.
When asked about the official channels students should rely upon, Dr. Aziz emphasized that applicants should obtain admission and registration information exclusively through Kuwait University's official communication channels, particularly its official social media platforms.
He further stressed the importance of contacting the relevant University departments directly whenever clarification is needed and avoiding reliance on unofficial or unverified sources to prevent misunderstandings or mistakes during the application period.
