The State of Kuwait has achieved another international milestone by securing outstanding results at the H2 Grand Prix World Finals 2026, hosted in Switzerland. The competition brought together 85 teams from 26 countries, making it one of the world's largest educational competitions focused on hydrogen technologies and clean energy.
Kuwait's success was highlighted by Team Sonic from Sabahiya Secondary School, which achieved a top global ranking in the Stock category for secondary school students. Kuwaiti teams also earned several international awards, with Team Maria Hydro from Maria Al-Qibtiya Secondary School receiving the Design Award, while Team Sonic was presented with the Team Spirit Award in the same category.
Kuwait also competed in the advanced Modified category through a team from Kuwait University, led and coached by Dr. Omar Al-Ali, alongside a team representing the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET). Both teams delivered commendable performances that reflected the advanced scientific and engineering capabilities of Kuwait's national talent.
This achievement is the result of coordinated national efforts led by Kuwait University, represented by the College of Science and its Department of Computer Science, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Public Authority for Youth. Together, they organized Kuwait's national H2 Grand Prix competition and supervised the preparation of the Kuwaiti teams for the world finals, in line with their mission to promote a culture of innovation, support applied education, and prepare a generation capable of competing internationally in science, engineering, technology, and sustainable energy.
Acting Dean of the College of Science at Kuwait University, Prof. Haider Behbehani, stated that this global achievement reflects the value of investing in Kuwait's youth and demonstrates the success of Kuwait University's vision of empowering students to compete in emerging scientific and technological fields. He commended the efforts of the University's academic staff, supervisors, organizers, and supporting partners, emphasizing that these results reinforce Kuwait's growing presence in international programmes dedicated to innovation and sustainability.
The Kuwaiti delegation concluded its participation in the championship with a visit to the Embassy of the State of Kuwait to the Swiss Confederation, where His Excellency Ambassador Naser Abdullah Al-Hayen welcomed the delegation and participating students. The Ambassador expressed his pride in their distinguished accomplishments, which have elevated Kuwait's international standing, and praised the role of Kuwait University and national institutions in nurturing scientific talent and enabling young Kuwaitis to achieve success on the global stage.
