Research, Teaching.

Courses taught: Phonetics and phonology, Sociolinguistic, Introduction to Linguistics, Generative syntax. All for undegraduates

Research Interests

My work is in phonetics and phonology, particularly, the prosodic aspects of speech production and perception. I investigate acoustic correlates of the prosodic structure across languages and dialects, Arabic dialects in particular. My aim is to understand the influences of language-specific and dialect-specific lexical and structural properties on the acoustics of prosody and on communication aspects of speech. I’m also interested in understanding the mechanisms speakers use to manipulate/distribute the acoustics of speech to signal structure and how listeners interpret those cues to perceive speech structures.

Academic Subjects

Linguistics, Phonetics and Phonology, Prosody, Speech production and perception, Acoustic analysis
