Dhary Alkandary Ph.D.
Assistant Professor at Kuwait University, Dhary Alkandary has been a valuable member of the Earth & Environmental Sciences Department since 2015. With a master's degree earned in 2011 and a Ph.D. degree earned in 2014 in Environmental Sciences - Land Degradation and Desertification - from University of Texas at Arlington, Texas, focused on remediation of lead-contaminated soils. His research interests include soil remediation, water quality assessment, heavy metals, soil chemistry, and air quality.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching, conducting and publishing original research, and contributing to the university and wider academic community through service and administration. These duties are fulfilled through a combination of delivering lectures, creating curriculum, mentoring students, writing scholarly articles, securing grants, and participating in departmental and institutional committees. 

Professional Experience
  • 4 years Project Superfund site (grant of 400,000$) Clean up historical soil lead contamination in residential yards in New Orleans, L.A. by using different phosphate amendments (in-situ remediation). Funded by artist Mel Chen and supervised by Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

  • 3 months Project Testing lead concentration levels in soil in Plano, TX.

  • 3 months Project Testing lead concentration levels in soil in Fresco, TX.

  • 2 years Project Funded and Supervised by US.EPA Field and lab Testing the effectiveness of Phosphate amendment (Apatite II) with different percentages to remediate lead contaminated soil in residential sites. West Oakland, CA.

  • 1year collaboration project (SORBENT) with Oil Spill Fix ®™ Ltd. company in testing bio-product effectiveness of bioremediation technique in oil contaminated soil in Sabriya, North Kuwait, 2016. 

  • Personal Scanning Electron Microscopy (PSEM) [particle analysis of dust, soils, and sediments].
  • Sampling and Analysis of heavy metals [e.g. Lead, As, Cd, Zn].

Soil Remediation in Urban and Rural Areas, Soil Chemistry, Heavy Metals in Seawater Bottom Sediments and Dust, Seawater Quality Assessment, Air Quality Assessment.
