Research Interests

My research focuses on advancing genomic medicine to enhance the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of chronic kidney diseases (CKD), with a particular emphasis on autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and diabetic nephropathy (DN). By integrating next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies—including whole-exome and whole-genome sequencing, I aim to uncover novel genetic variants, refine diagnostic strategies, and identify potential therapeutic targets for kidney disease. My work bridges genetic discoveries with clinical applications, supporting precision medicine approaches to improve patient care and disease management.

A key area of my research is the genetic landscape of ADPKD, particularly in underrepresented populations, to characterize novel mutations, genotype-phenotype correlations, and atypical presentations. I have played a pivotal role in establishing a dedicated ADPKD clinic, facilitating translational research and improving access to genetic testing and targeted therapies. My research on DN focuses on genetic susceptibility, disease-modifying factors, and biomarker discovery through exosomal profiling. Looking ahead, I aim to leverage multi-omics approaches, bioinformatics tools, and advanced molecular techniques to deepen our understanding of CKD pathophysiology and drive innovations in precision nephrology.

Academic Subjects

As an Associate Professor of Medical Genetics at the Health Sciences Center, Kuwait University, I am committed to keeping students at the frontiers of knowledge in genetics, genomics, medical genomics, and bioinformatics. My teaching spans undergraduate, medical, and dental students, as well as postgraduate trainees, with a strong focus on the genetic basis of disease and its clinical applications.

I integrate lectures, laboratory practical’s, and problem-based learning (PBL) to equip students with both theoretical expertise and hands-on skills in molecular biology, genomic technologies, and computational genetics. My approach emphasizes real-world applications, ensuring that students master cutting-edge methods such as next-generation sequencing (NGS), variant interpretation, and bioinformatics tools for precision medicine.

By fostering critical thinking, technical proficiency, and interdisciplinary learning, I aim to prepare students for the rapidly evolving landscape of genomic medicine and translational research, empowering them to be leaders in the field.
