Dr. Zahraa Marafie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Science at Kuwait University. She holds both a Master’s and Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of California, Irvine. Her expertise spans Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), with a focus on Real-Time Systems and Service-Oriented Computing.
During her doctoral research, Dr. Marafie designed and implemented AutoCoach, an innovative system leveraging AI and IoT to analyze and personalize driver behavior feedback, enhancing road safety through tailored alerts and analytics. Her current research explores practical AI and IoT applications across sectors, including Medical AI, where she develops intelligent health monitoring solutions such as HeatWatch, a real-time heat exhaustion detection system. She also leads projects like in Business Data Analysis, and medical AI.
In addition to her academic and research activities, Dr. Marafie actively mentors students as the Faculty Supervisor of the ClickIT Club and the KU ACM Student Chapter (2025). She also serves as a High-Impact WiDS (Women in Data Science) Ambassador for 2025, championing inclusive excellence in talks, events, and outreach programs.
