Professional Experience

Professional Experience

Before joining Kuwait University, I worked as a bank teller at Burgan Bank (1989-1992) and a data entry clerk at the Public Authority for Civil Information (1992-1997). In my present position at KU, I teach a wide range of courses in linguistics, carry out administrative duties, attend conferences to expand my academic network, and engage in academic research.

Academic Subjects

Academic Subjects

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and find it highly rewarding. I teach a wide range of linguistics courses, especially technology-related ones such as Computational Linguistics, Corpus Linguistics, Language in the Digital Age, and Introduction to Translation and Technology. I deliver workshops and seminars in and outside the institution.

Research Interests

Research Interests

My research interests have been focused on onomastics and anthroponyms for a number of years now, from both historical and contemporary perspectives. I am also interested in the language contact of Farsi and Kuwaiti Arabic. The minority groups of Kuwaiti ʕayam  'Ajam' experience a gradual shift away from their ethnic language to the use of the majority language.
