Kuwait University Council held its meeting No. (03/2026), chaired by Kuwait University President Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, on Wednesday morning, September 30, 2026. Prof. Al-Mailem emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts across the University’s various sectors to advance its development, achieve its goals and aspirations, and enhance the quality of performance across all areas.
Prof. Al-Mailem welcomed the University Council members and extended her warmest congratulations to all members of the Kuwait University community, including academic and academic support staff, administrative staff, and students, on the start of the 2026–2027 academic year, wishing them a year filled with achievement, excellence, and fruitful contributions.
The University President commended the efforts made across the University’s colleges and campuses, which were observed during her inspection tour at the start of the new academic year. She praised the commitment to preparing the academic environment and support services to welcome students and ensure a smooth and well-organized start to the academic year.
Prof. Al-Mailem expressed her appreciation for the efforts of all colleges, sectors, departments, and teams that contributed to these preparations. She emphasized the importance of maintaining the same spirit of collaboration throughout the academic year to fulfill the University’s aspirations and enhance the quality of performance across its various sectors.
Prof. Al-Mailem also stressed the importance of ensuring that committees within academic departments and colleges effectively fulfill their roles, with their formation and operations conducted in accordance with applicable regulations and bylaws. This contributes to sound procedures and the effective organization of academic work.
She further emphasized the importance of following the approved procedures for university textbooks, including obtaining approval from the relevant committees and ensuring that approved textbooks are purchased exclusively through the University Student Bookstore. This ensures that the established procedures are applied clearly and consistently. 
As part of the ongoing academic and administrative procedures, Prof. Al-Mailem noted that selection committees have been formed to appoint deans for a number of the University’s colleges, in line with applicable regulations and laws. Committees for the remaining colleges will be formed progressively, following the approved frameworks and procedures.
She also expressed her appreciation to the chairs and members of the dean selection committees for their efforts, wishing them success in fulfilling their responsibilities. She also extended her best wishes to all candidates for dean positions.
In a statement following the meeting, Acting Secretary General of Kuwait University and Official Spokesperson Prof. Noura Ahmad Al-Suwaih stated that the Council approved Kuwait University’s final accounts for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. 
Prof. Al-Suwaih added that the Council also approved the promotion of 23 academic staff members from a number of scientific, humanities, and social sciences colleges to the ranks of Professor and Associate Professor.
Prof. Al-Suwaih concluded by emphasizing the importance of the Council’s decisions in supporting the University’s continued progress and advancing academic and administrative performance, contributing to the achievement of Kuwait University’s objectives and the further development of its institutional framework.
