The College of Public Health at Kuwait University, represented by the Department of Health Administration and Policy, achieved an outstanding accomplishment by securing the top three positions at the Third Ministry of Health Public Health Conference, which concluded its activities recently. This achievement came amid strong competition involving  (26) scientific research papers submitted by various health and academic institutions.
First place was awarded to Assistant Lecturer Mr. Mohammed Al-Mari for his research entitled “The Economic Burden of COVID-19 Premature Mortality in Kuwait.” Second and third places were jointly shared by Assistant Professor Saleh Al-Sarhan and Mr. Mohammed Al-Mari for two collaborative studies entitled “Predictors of Hospitalization Costs Due to COVID-19 in Kuwait: Evidence from Real-World Data,” and “Are Regions Equal in Economic Severity? A Spatiotemporal Analysis of Quarantine Burden and Economic Losses in Kuwait.”
In this regard, the Acting Dean of the College, Dr. Mohammad Al-Khamis, praised this achievement, considering it a clear indication of the advancement of the College’s research capabilities. He emphasized that this triple win reflects the College’s growing role in supporting applied research with direct impact and in strengthening its position as a scientific hub that contributes to establishing the knowledge foundations for evidence-based health policymaking. Such contributions, he noted, serve Kuwait’s aspirations to improve community health and enhance the efficiency of the national health system, while also highlighting the excellence of the College’s faculty in producing high-quality studies that support health policies in the State.
The Dean further affirmed that the achievements of the Department of Health Administration and Policy reflect a firm belief in the importance of scientific research and its role in serving society and advancing the public health system in the country. He added that this distinction is the result of collective effort and continuous collaboration among faculty members, extending his appreciation and gratitude for their dedication and valuable contributions.
