In Promotion of Financial Awareness, Financial Literacy, and a Culture of Saving Among Its Members
Central Bank of Kuwait Hosts Seminar on Security Features of Banknotes at Kuwait University
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance financial awareness and promote a culture of financial literacy and saving, a seminar entitled “Security Features of Banknotes and Methods of Verification” was organized through the cooperation of the Public Relations and Media Department, the College of Business Administration at Kuwait University, and the Central Bank of Kuwait. The seminar was delivered by Ms. Fatemah Al-Najm, Head of the Currency Security and Development Division, and Mr. Mohammed Al-Bahar, Currency Security and Development Specialist at the Central Bank of Kuwait, on Monday, 16 February 2026, at the Glass Hall in Sabah Al-Salem University City.
During the seminar, the speakers reviewed methods for verifying the security features of the sixth issue of the Kuwaiti currency and explained mechanisms for distinguishing between fit and unfit banknotes for circulation. A practical demonstration was provided on fundamental currency examination techniques, including visual inspection, tactile verification, tilting the banknote, and holding it against light. The lecturers also clarified the types of damage that render banknotes unfit for circulation, such as tears, cuts, burns, writings, and adhesive materials.
In addition, the seminar addressed the importance of strengthening individuals’ financial literacy, emphasizing the value of saving and sound financial planning in achieving financial stability. The role of the Central Bank of Kuwait in safeguarding the stability of the national currency and supervising the banking sector in the State of Kuwait was also highlighted.
The seminar concluded with an open discussion session, during which students and attendees raised questions related to currency security features, verification methods, and broader aspects of financial awareness.
