Enhancing Local Presence and Promoting Effective Community Engagement
Under the patronage and attendance of the Acting Dean of the College of Life Sciences, Prof. Ahmad Rashid Al-Lafi, the Department of Communication Disorders Science organized an awareness exhibition titled “Let Us Be Aware… Communication Disorders.” The event commenced at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, 6 December 2025, and continued until 10:00 p.m. at The Avenues Mall.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Acting Head of the Department of Communication Disorders and instructor of the course “Special Training in Family Care” at the College of Life Sciences, Dr. Sanaa Al-Bustan. The exhibition’s core idea centered on showcasing and explaining the students’ final projects from the course, with a specific focus on family support. Dr. Al-Bustan emphasized that the department and the college are always ready to provide knowledge and expertise to the community—especially to families of individuals affected by communication disorders. She stressed that early awareness and cooperation between families and specialized professionals greatly contribute to facilitating the treatment process.
On this occasion, Dr. Hadeel Ayyad from the Department of Communication Disorders expressed her delight with this first-time event, during which students from the “Special Training in Family Care” course presented and explained their projects. The exhibition aimed to raise community awareness about the causes of swallowing disorders, speech disorders, autism, and other conditions, while shedding light on the challenges faced by individuals with such disorders—helping families and the public gain a deeper understanding of these cases.
In the same context, course student and exhibition organizer Bibi Al-Awadhi stated that this event was held to educate community members about various disorders that represent an integral part of society, and to highlight the importance of early intervention in treating these conditions. She extended her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the exhibition, particularly thanking Dr. Sanaa Al-Bustan, Acting Head of the Department and course instructor, for her tireless efforts and her trust in the students.
At the conclusion of the event, the Acting Dean of the College of Life Sciences, Prof. Ahmad Rashid Al-Lafi, expressed his happiness with this awareness initiative, affirming that such efforts align with the college’s ongoing commitment to supporting families within Kuwaiti society. He offered his thanks to Dr. Sanaa Al-Bustan, the organizing students, and all supporting parties for their efforts, wishing continued benefit for all.
It is worth noting that the exhibition saw a significant turnout from families, interested community members, students, and specialists from various health institutions, as well as faculty members from the College of Life Sciences and other colleges. This strong participation underscores Kuwait University’s dedication to being an active and influential part of the community.
