With the aim to affirm Kuwait University’s ongoing efforts to foster a sustainable and healthy environment, and through a joint collaboration between the Security and Safety Department at Kuwait University and the Health Promotion Department at the Ministry of Health, the University organized an event to mark World Mental Health Day at the College of Science lobby in Sabah Al-Salem University City.
For her part, Dr. Abeer Al-Bahouh, Director of the Health Promotion Department at the Ministry of Health, stated, “We are honored to participate today at the College of Science in celebration of World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10 of every year.”
She noted that this year’s theme, “Psychological Changes to Cope with Crises and Emergencies,” reflects the importance of understanding the psychological impacts of crises such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Al-Bahouh also expressed her gratitude to Kuwait University for hosting the event.
Meanwhile, Mr. Yousef Al-Khamees, Director of the Security and Safety Department at Kuwait University, expressed his appreciation for organizing this event in observance of World Mental Health Day, emphasizing the University’s commitment to promoting mental health awareness and ensuring a supportive academic environment. He further highlighted Kuwait University’s dedication to implementing health sustainability in line with the Sabah Al-Salem University City strategy as a “Healthy City.”
The event also featured several awareness booths from participating entities, including the Ministry of Health, Kuwait University, and the Kuwait Society for Combating Smoking and Cancer. The booths aimed to raise awareness among students about mental and physical health, including sections focused on obesity prevention, the harms of smoking, and a dedicated booth from Kuwait University Clinic.
