
Kuwait University's Community Service Center Organizes "Cyber Awareness" Workshop for Ministry of Defense Personnel
Under the patronage and presence of Dr. Hamed Al-Fraih, Assistant Vice President for Academic Support Services for Community Service and Libraries, the Community Service and Continuing Education Center at Kuwait University organized a workshop for Ministry of Defense personnel titled "Cyber Awareness: The First Line of Defense Against Digital Crimes." The workshop took place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Sabah Al-Salem University City, with the attendance of Ms. Etemad Abdulrahman Al-Kandari, Acting Director of the Community Service and Continuing Education Center.
The workshop aimed to raise cybersecurity awareness and eliminate digital illiteracy in the field of security, especially within military institutions. It also sought to enhance individuals’ abilities to confront cyber threats and crimes.
In his speech, Dr. Hamed Al-Fraih stated that the organization of this workshop was directed by Kuwait University President Prof. Dina Al-Mailem. He emphasized that promoting a culture of cybersecurity is a strategic priority for the center. The workshop covered key areas intended to enhance cyber awareness, which is considered the first line of defense against digital crimes. He also announced that another workshop will be held within the next two weeks, as part of the ongoing awareness program. The upcoming session will address reducing the risks posed by human factors in military institutions and aims to eradicate cybersecurity illiteracy among Kuwaiti Army personnel.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Safaa Zaman, Professor in the Department of Information Science at the College of Life Sciences, Kuwait University. She discussed fundamental cybersecurity concepts and methods for protection against cyber breaches. She also praised Kuwait University's efforts and commitment to promoting public awareness through training workshops targeted at various segments of society.
