
Kuwait University’s Office of Vice President for Research organized a ceremony to honor faculty members who have been granted patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The ceremony was attended by Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan, Vice President for Research, along with several scholars and those interested in scientific research. It was held on Thursday, 18 September 2025, in the meeting hall of the Office of Vice President for Research.
In his address, Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan expressed his pride in the efforts and research achievements of Kuwait University’s faculty members, affirming that since its establishment, Kuwait University has been — and continues to be — a beacon of scientific and cultural enlightenment across various disciplines in both the sciences and the humanities. He noted that the university addresses topics that enrich knowledge and serve society in the social, economic, and technological fields, adding that it is a source of creativity and innovation for faculty members and graduate students, who contribute with ideas and research that address societal issues and propose effective solutions.
On this occasion, Prof. Sultan announced that through the Office of Patents and Intellectual Property, affiliated with the Office of Vice President for Research, Kuwait University successfully registered a number of patents during the 2024/2025 academic year. Among them were:
- Prof. Khaled Al-Hazzaa, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum, and his research team consisting of Eng. Sheikha Shams Al-Deen, Eng. Dalal Al-Oudah, Eng. Salwa Al-Azmi, and Eng. Hayat Al-Bassam, for their invention UBoatIt — an automated system for docking ships and boats.
- Dr. Khaled Ahmed Al-Ali, Prof. Khaled Ahmed Al-Hazzaa from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum, together with Dr. Brian Hawkins, faculty member at the University of Oklahoma, USA, for their invention titled Vibrational Steering System.
