In Line with Kuwait University’s Vision as a Leading National Institution of Excellence in Higher Education and Scientific Research The Research Sector Honors Patent-Holding Researchers

Under the patronage of Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan, Vice President for Research at Kuwait University, and in the presence of his assistants— Dr. Mabkhout Mohammed Al-Dosari, Assistant Vice-President for External Research Collaboration and Consultations, and Dr. Abdullatif Abdullah Al-Rashdan, Assistant Vice President for Research Implementation and Funding — the Office of External Research Collaboration and Consultations, under the Vice President for Research, organized a ceremony to honor a group of researchers and inventors who were granted patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), on Monday, 30 June 2025, at the Research Sector.

The ceremony commenced with Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan welcoming the attendees, expressing his appreciation for the researchers’ efforts in obtaining their patents. He emphasized that such accomplishments do not come as a surprise from such distinguished faculty at Kuwait University, noting that the shared goal is to elevate the academic and scientific standing of the university and enhance its global ranking. He extended his best wishes for continued success and advancement.

Prof. Sultan announced that Kuwait University’s Office of Patents and Intellectual Property registered nine patents during the 2024/2025 academic year, all of which were published by the USPTO. The event was held to recognize several of the inventors, including:

  • Dr. Mohammad Al-Fares, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum, along with his research team: Eng. Shaikha Al-Khalfan, Eng. Safaa Karam, Eng. Rabab Abdullah, and Eng. Zainab Ali, for their invention of an innovative device that provides a temporary, fast, and safe solution for pothole repairs.

     

  • Dr. Fatima Safar, from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the College of Science, Dr. Shaikha Ibrahim, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum, and Dr. Nasser Al-Sayegh, from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, for their invention of a mobile device for field-based soil sampling and testing.

     

  • Dr. Shaikha Ibrahim, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum, and Dr. Nasser Al-Sayegh, from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, for their invention of an integrated dynamic system that determines the stability of suspended particles in fluids using thermal imaging and advanced mixing techniques to ensure stable dispersion of solid particles within a liquid medium.

     

  • Dr. Shaikha Ibrahim, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum, and Dr. Nasser Al-Sayegh, from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, and Eng. Ali Al-Sayegh, from the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, for their invention of an innovative system for producing fluids containing suspended solids using advanced automated techniques.

     

On this occasion, Dr. Mabkhout Al-Dosari, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultations, affirmed that Kuwait University's vision is rooted in its status as a leading national institution distinguished in higher education and scientific research. He noted that the inventors' achievements are a testament to the realization of that vision.

He also expressed pride in their accomplishments and encouraged further patent registrations, pointing out that the Research Sector offers a Fast Track service aimed at reducing the USPTO’s patent review period from the standard one to three years to just six months to one year.

The ceremony concluded with commemorative photographs of the honored researchers.
