Under the patronage and attendance of Hamed S. Al-Fraih, Assistant Vice President of Kuwait University for Academic Support Services for Community Service and Libraries, the Community Service and Continuing Education Center at Kuwait University organized a workshop for members of the Ministry of Defense titled “Cybersecurity: Reducing Human Factor Risks in Military Institutions.”
The workshop took place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Sabah Al-Salem University City, with the attendance of Acting Director of the Community Service and Continuing Education Center, Ms. Etimad A. Al-Kandari.
The workshop, presented by Engineer Laith Al-Khalaf, aimed to raise awareness and preparedness among personnel in military institutions about the importance of cybersecurity, the implementation of preventive measures to strengthen the protection of digital infrastructure, and to reduce risks resulting from human error.
In his speech, Dr. Hamed S. Al-Fraih stated that the university has organized a series of seminars—the first one two weeks ago on cybersecurity awareness, and the second, held today, focusing on cybersecurity itself. He noted that the university targets approximately 200 Ministry of Defense personnel through these seminars, which are part of Kuwait University’s community service efforts amid current challenges. He added that the university is preparing to offer advanced training courses lasting one to two weeks, while also working on developing a longer training program extending up to six months or a year.
Ms. Etimad A. Al-Kandari, Acting Director of the Community Service and Continuing Education Center, confirmed that the second workshop began today at 9 a.m. and focused on cybersecurity and the human factor in military institutions, as well as the impact of these concepts on protecting military facilities. She extended her thanks to Engineer Laith Al-Khalaf for presenting the workshop, expressing hope that it meets the expectations of the Ministry of Defense. She affirmed that this collaboration comes within the framework of activating the protocols signed between Kuwait University and the Ministry of Defense.
In conclusion, she emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration between the university and the Ministry of Defense in training and awareness, contributing to the enhancement of national cybersecurity.
