Affirming Kuwait University’s Role in Supporting Inventors, The Research Sector Honors Patent-Holding Researchers

Kuwait University, through the Office of Patents and Intellectual Property affiliated with the Office of Vice President for Research, with the distinguished efforts of faculty members, has recorded several patents during the academic year 2024/2025. In recognition of these accomplishments, the inventors were honored by Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan, Vice President for Research, in the presence of Dr. Nasser Faisal Al-Tannak, Assistant Vice President for Research Analysis and Development, on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 12:00 noon in the Research Sector’s conference room.

This recognition serves as a testament to the distinguished research achievements of Kuwait University’s academic staff, who have been granted registered patents. It also reflects the ongoing efforts of the Vice President for Research’s Office—particularly the Office of Patents and Intellectual Property within the Research Sector—which has consistently led the way in supporting inventors and facilitating all necessary procedures for obtaining patents.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan congratulated the patent-holding faculty members on their outstanding achievement, expressing Kuwait University’s pride in their success and wishing them continued progress, excellence, and further scientific accomplishment.

The honored inventors were as follows:

  • Dr. Nawaf Faisal Al-Jowaihel, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Acting Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the College of Engineering and Petroleum.

     

  • Dr. Nasser Mostafa Al-Sayegh, Scientific Researcher in the Nanotechnology Program at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR).

  • Eng. Ali Mustafa Al-Sayegh, from the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development,
    and Engineers Hessa Al-Thallab, Maryam Jamali, and Hessa Al-Hamdan — for their invention of a sample container with an adjustable cross-sectional area.

 

  • Dr. Nawaf Faisal Al-Jowaihel, Dr. Nasser Mustafa Al-Sayegh, and Abbas Hammoud, Senior Research Associate at the Petroleum Research Center, KISR — for their invention of effervescent tablets enhanced with nanoparticles to improve oil recovery efficiency.

     

  • Dr. Nawaf Faisal Al-Jowaihel, Dr. Nasser Mustafa Al-Sayegh, and Eng. Maryam Jamali — for their invention of effervescent tablets based on carbon nanoparticles to enhance desalination efficiency in solar distillation plants.

     

  • Prof. Bader Shafaqah Al-Enezi, from the Department of Environmental Technology at the College of Life Sciences — for his invention of a high-salinity brine distributor using a multi-submerged jet reactor.

 

In his remarks, Dr. Mabkhout Al-Dosari, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, affirmed that scientific advancement and sustainable economic development are the outcomes of rigorous scientific research focused on finding the best innovative solutions. He emphasized that scientific research is the primary source for developing new products through patent registration and acquiring intellectual property rights.

He added that Kuwait University, represented by the Research Sector, provides outstanding services to researchers across various disciplines, encouraging and continuously supporting them in alignment with the goals of sustainable development and Kuwait Vision 2035. Dr. Al-Dosari also extended his gratitude to everyone who contributed to achieving these inventions, which align with the quality standards Kuwait University strives for in elevating its global ranking by excelling in scientific research and community service—meeting the needs of society and the demands of the labor market.
