The College of Public Health at Kuwait University organized the second annual Student Health Promotion Day, under the patronage and in the presence of Acting Dean Dr. Wadha Al-Fawzan, Director of the Health Promotion Department at the Ministry of Health Dr. Abeer Al-Baho, along with faculty members and students from the college.
The event opened with a presentation by Dr. Mona Al-Khabbaz, Head of the Environmental Health Department at the Ministry of Health’s Public Health Division, on the importance of health promotion and the challenges facing the local environment. This was followed by student project presentations.
Dr. Wadha Al-Fawzan, Acting Dean of the College of Public Health, stated that this event, now in its second year, serves as a bridge between students and the wider public, including both the general public and professionals working in the health system, particularly in the field of public health.
Dr. Al-Fawzan expressed her admiration for the innovative and creative ideas presented by students during the event, which aimed to raise awareness of the many public health challenges facing Kuwait. These projects stemmed from the principle that “prevention is better than cure,” which has become an effective method to combat diseases and injuries.
For her part, Dr. Dana Al-Tarrah, instructor of the “Practical Training in Health Promotion” course, explained that this event marked the conclusion of the course activities, during which third-year students presented their final projects aimed at promoting individual and community health across various dimensions. She noted that the project evaluation committee had difficulty selecting the winning projects due to the students’ dedication, creativity, and innovation in designing and implementing their work.
She added that the modern concept of public health goes beyond raising awareness about communicable and non-communicable diseases. It involves exploring the root causes of these conditions and also focusing on physical and mental health, injuries occurring at home, on the street, in workplaces, and other topics that impact individual, family, and community well-being.
Dr. Al-Fawzan and Dr. Al-Tarrah concluded by extending their sincere thanks to everyone who attended, participated, and contributed to the success of the event, including individuals and institutions, the course coordinator Ms. Qout Al-Mekhled, and the Kuwait Life Sciences Academy for their support and recognition of the winning students.
The names of the students with outstanding projects were announced:
Zahraa Mohammed, Dana Shaaban, Alya Al-Duaij, Lujain Al-Enezi, Muneera Al-Shammari, and Aisha Al-Shaqsiya.
