Kuwait University Council Holds Its Fifth Meeting

KU President inaugurates the University Council meeting and congratulates the university community on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the University’s establishment.
• KU President outlines the legal mechanism for imposing disciplinary sanctions on academic staff members.
• Approval of the Graduate Studies College announcement regarding admission requirements, projected student intake for the academic year (2026/2027), and postgraduate scholarship allocations.
• Approval of a cooperation agreement between Kuwait University and the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company.
• Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding between Kuwait University and the University of St Andrews – Department of Philosophy in Scotland.
• Approval of the proposal submitted by the General Secretariat (Security and Safety Department) concerning the establishment of a security and safety regulation.

Meeting Details
Kuwait University President, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, presided over the fifth meeting of the University Council (No. 05/2025), held on Monday, 24 November 2025, in the University Council Meeting Hall at Sabah Al-Salem University City, with the attendance of Council members.
At the outset, the KU President welcomed the attendees to the fifth meeting convened to discuss several items on the agenda. She also extended her congratulations to the university community on the 59th anniversary of the establishment of Kuwait University on 27 November 1966, wishing the institution continued progress, distinction, and success.
The KU President affirmed that the imposition of any disciplinary sanction on an academic staff member is conducted strictly in accordance with the legal procedures stipulated in Law No. (76) of 2019, which require the formation of investigative committees by ministerial decree, followed—upon verification of the violation—by referral to the Disciplinary Council.
The University Council ratified the minutes of Meeting No. (04/2025) held on 15 October 2025.
Council Resolutions and Statements
In a statement following the meeting, Acting Secretary-General of Kuwait University and Official Spokesperson, Prof. Nourah Al-Suwaih, announced that the University Council approved the Graduate Studies College announcement regarding admission requirements, projected student intake, and postgraduate scholarship allocations for the academic year 2026/2027.
The Council also approved a cooperation agreement between Kuwait University and the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company.
Additionally, Prof. Al-Suwaih stated that the Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding between Kuwait University and the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
Furthermore, the Council approved the proposal submitted by the General Secretariat (Security and Safety Department) concerning the establishment of a Security and Safety Regulation.
The Council reviewed the Kuwait University Annual Report for the academic year 2024/2025.
Finally, the Council approved the promotion of 42 faculty members to the ranks of Professor and Associate Professor in the scientific, humanities, and social sciences colleges
