
Under the patronage of Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, President of Kuwait University, the activities of the “Cultural Cinema” Initiative were launched, organized by Kuwait University—represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs — Department of Cultural and Artistic Activities—in a first-time collaboration with the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL).
The event took place on Wednesday, October 9, 2025, at Sabah Al-Salem University City, in the presence of Prof. Jassem Al-Hamadan, Acting Dean of Student Affairs; Dr. Salem Al-Shammari, Acting Vice Dean for Student Activities at the Deanship of Student Affairs; Mr. Musaed Al-Zamel, Assistant Secretary-General for the Arts Sector at the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters NCCAL; as well as several college deans, faculty and administrative members, and prominent figures from the arts, media, and cultural fields.
This initiative represents a distinguished step aimed at promoting cultural and artistic awareness and enriching campus life through an artistic platform showcasing historical and documentary films.
At the opening, Prof. Jassem Al-Hamadan, Acting Dean of Student Affairs at Kuwait University, affirmed that the Deanship has successfully embraced a wide range of cultural, artistic, and academic events that contribute to preserving cultural identity and documenting historical and artistic milestones. He noted that the Cultural Cinema initiative reflects significant moments in Kuwait’s cultural and artistic heritage and marks a qualitative leap in student activities. He expressed his hope that collaboration with NCCAL would serve as a sustainable platform to enhance students’ cultural and artistic awareness.
For his part, Mr. Musaed Al-Zamel, Assistant Secretary-General for the Arts Sector at the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters, stated that the Cultural Cinema initiative is a unique effort that highlights Kuwait University’s role in fostering creativity in literary and cultural fields within the campus, while shedding light on the nation’s cultural and artistic legacy.
The initiative was accompanied by an exhibition featuring rare documents and photographs from the history of Kuwaiti cinema that have contributed to shaping the nation’s cultural memory. The event also included visual screenings of historical and documentary films portraying key milestones in the development of Kuwait’s pioneering art scene, in addition to a panel discussion on Kuwaiti cinema.
In conclusion, Kuwait University—represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs—honored the sponsoring and participating parties for their valuable contributions to this cultural initiative.
