Kuwait University, represented by the Security and Safety Department, and in cooperation with the Student Housing Department for International Students Affairs, carried out a mock evacuation drill at the International Students Housing Building at Sabah Al-Salem University City. The exercise was conducted with the participation of the Kuwait Fire Force, the Medical Emergency Administration at the Ministry of Health, and other relevant entities, on Monday, 9 February 2026. The drill aimed to enhance preparedness, raise awareness of safety procedures, and strengthen the readiness of university members and visitors to respond effectively to emergency situations. A number of officials and supervisors concerned with security and safety from various participating entities attended the exercise.
During the evacuation, alarm systems, emergency exits, shelter usage procedures, and response times to reach external assembly points were tested, reflecting the readiness of the participating authorities and the effectiveness of the approved emergency plans.
In this context, the Director of the Security and Safety Department at Kuwait University, Mr. Yousef Al-Khamis, affirmed that the mock evacuation drill forms part of the department’s regular training plan. He noted that it aims to measure response speed and enhance safety awareness among all campus members, emphasizing that such exercises strengthen the ability to respond quickly and systematically to various emergencies and demonstrate the University’s commitment to implementing the highest security and safety standards.
For his part, Director of the Department of Student Housing and International Students Affairs, Deanship of Student Affairs, Kuwait University, Mr. Faleh Al-Masoud, explained that the drill included the evacuation of four residential buildings and was conducted as a preventive measure in preparation for potential emergencies. He added that the student housing facilities are equipped with 58 emergency exits, in addition to approved shelters, with simulated scenarios applied to handle injury cases efficiently.
It is worth noting that the exercise resulted in the evacuation of approximately 235 individuals within 12 minutes and 18 seconds, a record time reflecting the high level of preparedness, organization, and coordination among the participating entities in implementing the plan.
