As part of the strategic cooperation between Kuwait University and the institutions of the oil sector, the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University hosted an extensive scientific meeting with a delegation from the Research and Technology Division of Kuwait Oil Company. This was held to mark the completion of a joint applied research project titled:
"Characterization and Kinetic Modeling as a Tool for Designing Catalytic Treatments for the Complex Makhol Limestone Field."
This project is considered one of the prominent research challenges faced by Kuwait Oil Company due to the complexity of the geological formations in the Makhol Field. The project required an advanced study that combined stratigraphic characterization and kinetic modeling to offer innovative solutions for designing catalytic treatments.
The project was carried out by a research team from the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University, as part of the university’s efforts to leverage scientific research in support of key national sectors. The research team included Dr. Mabkhot Al-Dossari (Principal Investigator), Prof. Ali Qurosh, Prof. Osama Al-Omair, Prof. Haitham Lababidi, and Dr. Talal Al-Bathali.
Attending the event from Kuwait Oil Company were Eng. Ali Abdullah Al-Azmi, Head of the West Kuwait Fields Development Team (Manaqeesh), along with representatives from the Research and Technology Division, including Eng. Huda Al-Enezi, Dr. Ali Qubayan, and from the Manaqeesh Team, Eng. Abdulmohsen Askar. During the meeting, the main phases of the project, its results, and recommended applications for field implementation in the development of the Makhol Field were presented.
In his speech, Eng. Ali Al-Azmi praised the scientific and applied role played by the researchers from Kuwait University, noting that the results of this project will enhance the company’s capability to manage fields with challenging formations. He emphasized the importance of continuing such research partnerships.
For his part, Dr. Mabkhot Al-Dossari appreciated the support of Kuwait Oil Company for research projects related to the national industry. He stated that this collaboration reflects the strategic direction of the College of Engineering and Petroleum toward activating applied research and integrating academic knowledge with the needs of the oil sector.
Both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the university and Kuwait Oil Company, given its direct impact on finding practical scientific solutions to the engineering and technical challenges faced by the oil industry in Kuwait. They also highlighted the importance of supporting applied research projects that bridge academic knowledge with real-world applications and contribute to building specialized national capabilities.
This project is part of Kuwait Oil Company’s efforts to adopt the latest technologies for improving production performance, and aligns with Kuwait University’s strategy to enhance its role as an active partner in sustainable development and technological innovation in the country.
