Prof. Eisa Al-Safran and Dr. Mohammed Al-Abdullah from the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum – Kuwait University participated in the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show (OPES), which aims to promote sustainable energy, achieve balance between innovation and economic growth, and support the future of the energy sector. OPES is the only event in Oman that comprehensively serves the oil, gas, and energy industries and all related fields.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Abdullah, faculty member from the Department of Petroleum Engineering, presented a joint research paper alongside Engineer Abbas Sanasiri from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), titled:
“A Multi-Scale Evaluation of Polymer Injectivity and Fracture Behavior in the Burgan Field.”
This research is the result of a fruitful collaboration between Kuwait University and Kuwait Oil Company, exemplifying the synergy between academia and industry to support the future of enhanced oil recovery in Kuwait.
In addition, Prof. Eisa Al-Safran, faculty member in the same department, presented research on asphaltene deposition behavior in oil reservoirs during CO₂ injection using an integrated asphaltene deposition simulation model. This applied study is critical for predicting deposition behavior in reservoirs, as such deposits reduce reservoir rock porosity and lead to a decline in production. The research aims to identify the location, timing, and quantity of deposition to enable preemptive solutions. The findings are particularly relevant to the deep Marrat Formation reservoirs in Southeast Kuwait, especially in the Magua'a/Burgan reservoir.
Also in attendance were faculty members Dr. Fahad Al-Mudaires and Dr. Firas Al-Ruhaimani from the Department of Petroleum Engineering.
It is worth noting that the conference, organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), brought together a distinguished group of academic experts, who convened to exchange ideas through media discussions and technical presentations on key topics shaping the present and future of the industry.
