Kuwait University President, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, affirmed on Wednesday that the appointment of new faculty members and academic support faculty members represents a valuable addition to the University's academic journey and in advancing its national mission while further strengthening the systems of higher education and scientific research.

Her remarks came during a welcoming address delivered at a reception organized by Kuwait University, represented by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, under her patronage to welcome newly appointed faculty members and academic support faculty members and prepare them for their careers at the University with the start of the 2026–2027 academic year, held in the presence of university leaders.

Prof. Al-Mailem stated that the appointment of new academic talent marks the beginning of a new chapter in their academic and professional careers and continues a national legacy carried forward over the decades by generations of academics whose knowledge and dedication have contributed to building Kuwait University and serving the State of Kuwait.

She added that the role of a faculty member extends beyond the transfer of knowledge to developing students' capabilities and fostering their critical thinking, research, and innovation skills, while also contributing to the production of knowledge and directing it toward issues and priorities that serve Kuwait and support its national development.

Prof. Al-Mailem explained that Kuwait University places its faculty members and academic support faculty members at the heart of its efforts to achieve its strategic objectives, which are founded on quality, innovation, excellence, and sustainability, thereby enhancing the quality of education and scientific research while reinforcing the University's standing and national role.

She noted that the University continues to develop its educational and academic environment and advance its digital transformation through the adoption of modern technologies and the expanded use of digital solutions to meet the evolving needs of education and scientific research while creating broader opportunities for innovation and development.

She further affirmed the University's commitment to strengthening its partnership with the community by aligning its academic and research expertise with national needs and development priorities, while building effective partnerships with government institutions and the private sector and enhancing regional and international cooperation.

Prof. Al-Mailem expressed her confidence that the experience and ideas of the newly appointed faculty members and academic support faculty members will make a significant contribution to the University by advancing the educational and research experience and introducing new avenues for collaboration and innovation. She emphasized the University's commitment to providing a supportive academic environment that nurtures their ambitions, enables them to develop their capabilities, and helps transform their ideas into achievements that benefit students, the University, and society.

She welcomed the new members as partners in Kuwait University's mission and aspirations and as a continuation of nearly six decades of dedication since the University's establishment, emphasizing that this journey continues through and with them in serving Kuwait and future generations.

At the conclusion of her remarks, Prof. Al-Mailem prayed to Almighty Allah to protect Kuwait and continue to bless it with security, stability, prosperity, and progress under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

For his part, the Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Abdulrahman Al-Sulaili, outlined the administrative services provided by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs to newly appointed faculty members and academic support faculty members. He also explained the relationship of faculty members with students, colleagues, and scientific research.

Furthermore, the Vice President for Academic Support Services, Dr. Abdullah Al-Mutawa, introduced the electronic information package containing essential links and resources for faculty and academic support faculty members.

In addition, the Vice President for Research, Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan, highlighted research opportunities available to newly appointed faculty members and academic support faculty members, reviewing the University's research grants and awards programs designed to support their academic careers.

The Acting Dean of Admission and Registration, Dr. Fadel Abbas Aziz, outlined the responsibilities of the Deanship of Admission and Registration's departments and explained the teaching loads for the humanities and science colleges.

The Assistant Vice President for Planning and Institutional Development, Dr. Dalal Al-Taweel, emphasized the importance of the training program in preparing newly appointed faculty members and academic support faculty members and strengthening Kuwait University's role in innovation, scientific research, and community service.

For her part, the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Huda Mahmoud, reviewed promotion requirements and University regulations applicable to faculty members and academic support faculty members, including eligibility to apply for promotion after fulfilling the required period of service, as well as the requirements for obtaining academic sabbatical leave.

Finally, the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Planning, Dr. Mishari Al-Nahedh, presented the University's strategic directions for achieving excellence in scientific research, teaching, and community service to support academic quality and enhance the University's outcomes. The Assistant Vice President for Evaluation and Measurement, Dr. Sulaiman Al-Rafee, highlighted the role of evaluation and measurement in strengthening academic quality and assessing educational outcomes, scientific research, and community service through clear indicators and standards.
