Kuwait University Launches the Electric Transportation Project (Route 1) at Sabah Al-Salem University City in Support of Environmental Sustainability and University Transportation Development

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Governor of Farwaniya, Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah, Kuwait University officially launched the electric transportation project connecting the university’s colleges within Sabah Al-Salem University City, under the title Route 1. The launch took place in the presence of the University President, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, during a formal ceremony attended by representatives of the General Secretariat of Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation including the Acting Secretary-General, Ms. Amal Al-Dalal; Director of the Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation, Ms. Maareb Al-Yaqoub; and Researcher at the Endowment Fund for Scientific and Social Development, Ms. Anfal Al-Abd Al-Jadir.
The ceremony also included key figures from the banking sector, such as Mr. Thamer Al-Anezi, Deputy Director General of Central Sales Management at Boubyan Bank; Mr. Hesham Abdul khaleq, Assistant Director General of Boubyan Bank, alongside senior university leaders, several deans, and guests from official entities and the financial sector.
In his speech, His Excellency Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah praised the project, stating: “This is a beautiful and important initiative that deserves thanks and appreciation, particularly to the Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation for their generous support in providing 15 electric vehicles for campus mobility. This contributes to promoting sustainable transportation and facilitating the movement of students and staff within Sabah Al-Salem University City.” He emphasized that such initiatives reflect the university and its partners’ dedication to enhancing the campus environment and providing advanced services aligned with the needs of the academic community.
In her address, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem highlighted that Route 1 represents a qualitative leap in promoting sustainable transportation within the campus, noting: “The project constitutes a pioneering step toward establishing a sustainable, smart, and environmentally friendly university environment. It is the first organized electric transportation project of its kind in Kuwait, which makes us proud of this significant transformation in campus services.” She further explained that the launch of the project aligns with the university’s vision to provide safe and efficient transportation means, facilitating the movement of university affiliates between buildings and colleges, reducing traffic density within the campus, and enhancing an advanced and comprehensive educational environment.
The ceremony program also included a visual presentation by Mr. Youssef Al-Khamees, Director of the Security and Safety Department, outlining the stages of the project’s implementation, the approved routes, and the electric vehicles used.
In conclusion, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem honored the General Secretariat of Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation in recognition of their support for this pioneering project and their generous donation of 15 electric vehicles. She also thanked Boubyan Bank for contributing to the ceremony and adding visual identity stickers to the vehicles. She expressed her gratitude to all supporting entities, emphasizing that such cooperation reflects constructive community partnerships that enhance sustainable initiatives within the campus and support the university’s efforts to develop its services and provide a modern, integrated educational environment.
