In line with Kuwait University’s commitment to strengthening its distinguished presence and institutional role in Gulf media forums, and in support of empowering women in leadership positions and shaping national discourse, the University participated in 4th Gulf (GCC) Women Journalists Forum, held from November 14–18, 2025, in Kuwait. The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutaiti, and organized by the Kuwait Journalists Association in cooperation with the Gulf Journalists Union.

The forum witnessed a prominent presence of several Gulf female leaders, including former ministers Dr. Masouma Al-Mubarak, Dr. Amani Bougamaz, and Engineer Mai Al-Baghli, who participated in the first session discussing the role of media in supporting development and empowering women in decision-making positions. The second session featured Acting Secretary General of Kuwait University and Vice President for Health Sciences Prof. Noura Al-Suwaih, along with Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance Ms. Aseel Al-Munifi. This session was titled: “Media as a Partner in Executive Leadership: How Officials and Media Shape a Shared National Narrative.”

Kuwait University’s participation, represented by Acting Secretary General and Vice President for Health Sciences Prof. Noura Al-Suwaih on behalf of University President Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, took place during the second session on the forum’s final day. The session focused on the role of women in media, raising awareness, and promoting professionalism within Gulf media institutions. The KU delegation included Director of Public Relations and Media Ms. Anoud Al-Rashidi, Media Affairs Supervisor Ms. Amal Al-Kandari, and CEO of Afaaq University Newspaper Ms. Heba Al-Taweel.

Prof. Al-Suwaih emphasized that Kuwait University’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to actively contributing to Gulf and regional media events, highlighting its role in supporting institutional partnerships, and offering academic perspectives that help develop media practices and keep pace with rapid advancements in communication technologies and content creation.

She added that Kuwait University plays a leading role in serving the community, participating in diverse activities that strengthen direct engagement with Kuwaiti society through the University’s Public Relations and Media Department and in collaboration with local media institutions, by offering educational, research, and awareness programs that foster trust and enhance the University’s knowledge-based role.

Prof. Al-Suwaih further explained that the University is an interactive institution that addresses social, health, and political developments proactively, conveying scientific messages through educational programs, research initiatives, or innovations in clear, accessible language for all segments of society. She stressed the importance of transparency, defining it as “delivering accurate and reliable information to the community.”

In this context, Prof. Al-Suwaih praised the competence of national staff at Kuwait University, noting that the University applies academic knowledge and research in real life applications. She cited the example of translating academic expertise into the launch of Kuwait’s first university satellite, executed entirely by KU students in strategic partnership with Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), which will soon evolve into a specialized center in support of the directives of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

She also revealed that the University holds 80 patented projects this year alone, emphasizing the importance of institutional support to transform these innovations into products that serve the nation.

In the field of digital security, she noted that the University provides a variety of cybersecurity courses available to all as a community service to raise digital awareness, in line with government initiatives toward digital transformation and strengthening cybersecurity. She emphasized the necessity of equipping institutions with up-to-date knowledge to protect state entities that rely on electronic services.

Kuwait University’s participation in this Gulf event underscores its dedication to achieving its societal role, supporting media initiatives, enhancing opportunities for academic and media cooperation, and consolidating Kuwait’s position as a leading center for thought and media in the region.
