Kuwait University Organizes an Awareness Event Entitled “Health and Cancer Prevention”

Coinciding with Cancer Awareness Month
In line with Kuwait University’s commitment to promoting health awareness and encouraging preventive measures against cancer, the University organized an awareness event entitled “Health and Cancer Prevention”, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Kuwait Cancer Control Center, coinciding with Cancer Awareness Month.
Under the patronage of the President of Kuwait University, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, and in the presence of the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Adnan Abul, representing the University President, the event was held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the lobby of the University Administration Building. The activity featured the participation of a distinguished group of specialists representing various health disciplines, alongside a number of university leaders and college deans.
This initiative reflects Kuwait University’s dedication to enhancing health awareness among members of the university community, highlighting the importance of early detection and the adoption of healthy lifestyles as preventive measures against cancer. The event aimed to promote a culture of health and to reinforce the concept of prevention as the first line of defense against chronic diseases, particularly cancer. The program was organized in cooperation with the National Campaign for Cancer Awareness (CAN) and supported by STC.
The event included an educational seminar moderated by Dr. Ahmed Salman, Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Practice at the Faculty of Public Health, Kuwait University. The seminar hosted a group of experts from various health institutions in the country, who discussed key themes related to public health, cancer prevention, the significance of early screening, and the vital role of educational institutions in promoting health awareness.
The seminar began with a lecture by Dr. Abeer Al-Baho, Director of the Health Promotion Department and Consultant in Health Education, who addressed the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles to prevent chronic diseases. Dr. Al-Anoud Faisal Al-Sumait, Senior Clinical Nutrition Specialist and Head of the Nutrition and Food Services Department at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center, delivered a lecture on healthy nutrition, disease awareness, treatment, and prevention. Dr. Sharifah Nasser Al-Ragum, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, discussed the role of physiotherapy in the rehabilitation of post-mastectomy patients, while Dr. Mohammed Qaddoumi, Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the Faculty of Pharmacy, spoke about vaccination as a preventive measure against cancer.
The event also featured a series of educational segments and interactive displays aimed at raising participants’ awareness about the importance of prevention and early detection. Scientific guidance was provided on healthy nutrition, physical activity, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. The accompanying exhibition included the participation of the Health Sciences Center faculties, along with several governmental and private institutions, including the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, and the National Campaign for Cancer Awareness (CAN).
