Kuwait University Wins Gold Medals and Several Awards at the 16th International Invention Fair in the Middle East

In a new achievement added to Kuwait University’s distinguished record of excellence, the University secured four gold medals through its participation in the 16th International Invention Fair in the Middle East, held in cooperation with the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva and organized by the Kuwait Science Club.

This accomplishment came through the participation of the Patent and Intellectual Property Office of the Research Sector, represented by a select group of Kuwait University affiliates holding patents accredited by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) of the U.S. Department of Commerce, reaffirming Kuwait University’s leading role in supporting scientific research and innovation.

Several researchers were awarded gold medals during the exhibition. Prof. Saad Ali Makhseed from the Department of Chemistry, College of Science, and Prof. Mohamed H. Al-Kurdi received a Gold Medal with Honors for their invention titled:

Method for Preparing Nitrogen/Sulfur-Doped Activated Carbon
a novel carbon material with promising applications in energy storage and environmental technologies.

Prof. Khaled Ahmed Al-Hazzaa from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering and Petroleum, together with his research team comprising engineers Salwa Al-Azmi, Dalal Al-Ouda, Hayat Al-Bassam, and Sheikha Shams Al-Deen, received a Gold Medal for their invention:

Automatic Boat Docking System (UBoatIt)
an innovative automated system for docking ships and boats.

Dr. Mohammed Abdullatif Al-Fares from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering and Petroleum, along with his research team comprising engineers Sheikha Al-Khalfan, Safaa Karam, Rabab Fardan, and Zainab Khaled, received a Gold Medal with Honors for their invention:

Road Pothole Fixer
an innovative device that provides a fast, safe, and temporary solution for repairing road potholes.

In addition, Dr. Abdulrahman Mutib Al-Azemi, Prof. Fouzi Mouffouk, Dr. Laila Jaragh-Alhadad, supporting academic staff member Mohammed Emirah, and graduate student Tasneem Salem from the Department of Chemistry, College of Science, with the participation of Dr. Abdulhamid Emwas from the Core Laboratory for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, were awarded a Gold Medal with Honors for their invention:

Biomolecule Detection Method Using Diffusion Ordered Spectroscopy
an advanced method for detecting biomolecules using diffusion-ordered spectroscopy.

In addition to this distinction, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Azmi received the Association of Arab Universities Award, while Prof. Khaled Al-Hazzaa, Dr. Mohammed Al-Fares, and Prof. Saad Makhseed received an award from the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity, in recognition of their outstanding research efforts and innovations.

The International Invention Fair in the Middle East aims to provide a global platform for Arab inventors to connect and exchange expertise with peers from around the world. It is considered the second-largest international invention exhibition after the Geneva International Exhibition, and enjoys wide Arab, regional, and international attention. Participating inventions are evaluated by a specialized committee according to rigorous international standards to select the most outstanding innovations.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Mabkhout Al-Dosari, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation at Kuwait University, congratulated the winning researchers, praising their distinguished scientific efforts and affirming that these achievements reflect the advanced position Kuwait University has attained in the fields of research and innovation.

He added that the University will continue to support inventors and researchers and provide an environment that nurtures creativity, wishing them continued success and accomplishments that elevate the name of Kuwait University at regional and international forums.
