Kuwait University Opens Pathways for Student Innovation with the Launch of the H2GrandPrix Clean Hydrogen Championship and Qualifies Participants for the 2026 World Finals in Switzerland

Kuwait University, represented by the College of Science and in cooperation with the College of Engineering and Petroleum and the Public Authority for Youth, announced its hosting of the regional H2GrandPrix Hydrogen Racing Championship this season. The event comes through a strategic partnership with Al-Sayer Group and in collaboration with Horizon Educational from the Czech Republic—the official global organizer of the championship—in a pioneering educational initiative targeting high-school and university students.
Kuwait University’s hosting of this championship comes within its efforts to strengthen applied education in the fields of hydrogen as a clean energy source and renewable energy technologies, enabling students to acquire hands-on skills in engineering, design, innovation, and teamwork. Participants will design and build 1:10 scale race cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells and compete in an endurance race extending over several hours.
The regional championship is scheduled to be held on Kuwait University’s campus on 4 April 2026, with the participation of student teams from the high-school and university levels. Winning teams will qualify to represent the State of Kuwait at the World Finals, which will be held in Switzerland in June 2026.
The program organizers at Kuwait University explained that H2GrandPrix is implemented as part of a three-year framework that includes teacher and student training, provision of technical and logistical support, and the organization of preliminary races leading to the world championship. Student teams will be responsible for building their hydrogen-powered vehicles entirely—from the design phase to assembly, testing, and data analysis.
Kuwait University emphasized that this partnership with Al-Sayer Group and Horizon Educational represents an exceptional model of cooperation between academia, the private sector, and international partners—contributing to empowering the next generation of engineers and innovators and opening new career pathways in hydrogen, renewable energy, and clean technologies.
On this occasion, Kuwait University called on educational entities and stakeholders in the energy and innovation sectors to support this initiative, affirming that investment in such programs is a direct investment in national human capital and in the future of Kuwait’s knowledge-based and sustainable economy.
The Public Authority for Youth affirmed that hosting this regional championship at Kuwait University marks a qualitative step that reflects the Authority’s commitment to developing the skills of Kuwaiti youth in science, engineering, and renewable energy. It noted that the championship is not merely a technical-sportive competition, but an advanced educational platform that refines students’ abilities and opens new horizons for future innovation.
The Authority added that it views such partnerships with Kuwait University, the Colleges of Science and Engineering, the private sector, and international organizing partners as an extension of its mission to cultivate a generation equipped with 21st-century skills, particularly in clean energy and the transition toward a green economy—aligning with the country’s priorities and long-term national vision.
It stressed its commitment to empowering youth by providing real training and competitive environments that integrate applied learning, teamwork, and problem-solving, noting the importance of offering students a unique opportunity to work directly with advanced technologies used today in major global energy projects.
For its part, Al-Sayer Group expressed its pleasure in serving as the strategic partner of Kuwait University in hosting this pioneering event—the regional H2GrandPrix hydrogen vehicle championship.
The Group stated: “Our vision at Al-Sayer goes beyond business to reflect the essence of social responsibility and sustainability. We believe firmly that investing in national human capital is a direct investment in the future of Kuwait’s knowledge-based and sustainable economy.”
Al-Sayer Group further affirmed that its partnership with Kuwait University and Horizon Educational serves as a distinguished model of collaboration between the private sector, academia, and international partners. The Group reiterated its support for this educational initiative, which enables students to gain practical skills in engineering, design, innovation, and teamwork, empowering the next generation of engineers and innovators in hydrogen, renewable energy, and clean technologies.
The Group expressed its anticipation to witness the creativity of the participating teams as they design and build hydrogen fuel-cell race cars, wishing success to the teams that will qualify to represent Kuwait in the World Finals in Switzerland in June 2026. Al-Sayer Group extended its appreciation to Kuwait University, Horizon Educational, and all those involved in this ambitious program.

Horizon Educational Statement :
Horizon Educational expressed its pride in collaborating with Kuwait University and Al-Sayer Group, stating:
“It is with great pride that we announce our partnership with Kuwait University and Al-Sayer Group to officially launch H2GP PRO in Kuwait for the 2025/26 season—a major milestone for the Gulf Region and for the global H2 Grand Prix community.
For the very first time, ten pioneering schools and universities from Kuwait will join our international ecosystem of hydrogen-powered racing and clean-energy STEM education.
Our goal is to empower students through a multi-year challenge in which they design, build, test, and analyze their own hydrogen-powered cars. This three-year program opens new career pathways in clean technologies and reflects our belief that the future belongs to sustainable energy.
The season begins this November as teams race their hydrogen-powered cars. The journey culminates in the Kuwait National Final in April, where the top teams will compete for a place in the H2GP World Finals in Switzerland in late June 2026.
This year marks ten years of H2GP—a program that has grown into a global movement active in more than 20 countries and inspiring thousands of students to become the next generation of clean-energy innovators.
We extend our thanks to Kuwait University for hosting and supporting this event, and to Al-Sayer Group for their strategic partnership. Together, we are shaping the future leaders of the energy sector.
To all the new teams, teachers, and partners in Kuwait: welcome to the global H2 Grand Prix family. We are honored to have you with us and look forward to witnessing your achievements on and off the track.”
