As part of its commitment to enhancing the academic and practical expertise of students at the College of Architecture – Kuwait University, and in alignment with the importance of adopting principles of environmental sustainability and green building in architectural projects, the College of Architecture, in collaboration with Al-Sayer Holding Group, organized its fourth educational visit to sustainable development projects in Doha, Qatar.
The visit included field tours of several exemplary projects in Doha, such as Msheireb Downtown Doha, Mina District, Qatar National Museum, Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif, the Qatar Foundation Headquarters, Qatar National Library, Education City Mosque, Mosque 27, Lusail Stadium, Stadium 974, Qetaifan Island, and the “Orchard” Park at Hamad International Airport. The itinerary also featured visits to Katara Cultural Village, Katara Hills, The Pearl Island, Katara Towers, and Place Vendôme in Lusail City.
Students also experienced the sustainable transportation system firsthand by using the Doha Metro immediately upon arrival at Hamad International Airport. The visit included guided presentations and detailed briefings from experts at the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) and various other institutions in the sustainability sector. Additionally, the students toured the GORD headquarters and the GORD Research Institute located in Qatar Science and Technology Park.
Dr. Omar Khattab, Vice Dean for Student Affairs, emphasized that the visit is part of the college’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, providing students with opportunities to engage directly with advanced urban environments that embrace sustainability and innovation. The visit also offered insight into pioneering practices in environmental design and urban planning.
On the sidelines of the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to establish joint cooperation between the College of Architecture – Kuwait University, Al-Sayer Holding Group in Kuwait, and the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) in Qatar. Under this agreement, both Al-Sayer Holding and GORD will continue to support the education and training of College of Architecture students in the principles of green building and environmental and urban sustainability.
