As part of Kuwait University’s commitment to highlighting the nation’s distinguished scientific figures, the Department of Mass Communication at the College of Arts organized a lecture entitled “Al-Sharikh: The Rock of the Arabic Language.”

In line with Kuwait University’s dedication to documentation and its presentation to the current generation,
the Cultural Committee of the Department of Mass Communication at the College of Arts held a lecture titled “Al-Sharikh: The Rock of the Arabic Language” on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the College of Arts – South Building.
The lecture was presented by Mr. Anas Al-Khalifa and Mr. Abadah Nouh, producers of the documentary “Al-Sharikh: The Rock of the Arabic Language”, produced and aired by Al-Jazeera Documentary Channel, and moderated by Dr. Khaled Al-Qahs.

The event was attended by Dr. Eisa Al-Nashmi, Acting Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mahmood Al-Mousawi, Acting Head of the Department of Mass Communication, and Dr. Heba Al-Musallam, Rapporteur of the Cultural Committee, along with several faculty members.

The lecture covered several topics explaining the concept behind the documentary and the motivation to present it to younger generations. The film centers on the pioneering role of the late Mr. Mohammed Al-Sharikh in integrating the Arabic language into software, computers, and digital devices—an achievement whose impact continues to this day, facilitating knowledge transfer and cultural exchange.

In his remarks, Mr. Anas Al-Khalifa emphasized that every field has a remarkable figure who stands as an icon. For instance, in volunteerism, the late Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sumait; in arts and theatre, the great Abdulhussain Abdulredha; and in computing and digital technology, the late Mr. Mohammed Al-Sharikh, who remarkably advanced science, culture, and research through the incorporation of the Arabic language.

Meanwhile, Mr. Abadah Nouh commended the family of the late Mohammed Al-Sharikh for their support of the film, granting access to original documents and permission to film inside his home—an invaluable contribution that greatly enriched the documentary’s content and quality.

The session concluded with an open discussion between the producers and the audience, after which Dr. Khaled Al-Qahs expressed his appreciation to all attendees for their engagement and interest.
