In Line with the University’s Strategy to Foster an Environment Rich in Activities and Events, Kuwait University Launches the Third Consecutive KU Run Race at Sabah Al-Salem University City with Nearly 3,000 Participants

Under the generous patronage of the President of Kuwait University, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, and in collaboration with the strategic partner, Kuwait Investment Company, Kuwait University launched its third consecutive edition of the KU Run Race under the name KU RUN3. The event was organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs, represented by the Sports Activities Department at Kuwait University, and attended by Dr. Salem Matroud Al-Shammari, Acting Vice Dean for Student Activities, and Dr. Tariq Abbas Dashti, Acting Director of the Sports Activities Administration. Nearly 3,000 runners, from within and outside the university, participated in the event held at Sabah Al-Salem University City on the morning of Saturday, 15 November 2025.

The marathon commenced with a performance of the National Anthem by the Military Band, followed by the start of the 5-kilometer race around the university facilities. The men's race began at 8:00 a.m., while the women's race started at 8:15 a.m., with participation from university students, academic staff, administrative staff, students of the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences at the Ministry of Interior, in addition to participants from outside the university.

Dr. Salem Matroud Al-Shammari expressed his appreciation to all partners and sponsors of the KU RUN event, noting that their support added a distinctive touch to the occasion. He emphasized the University's role in highlighting the importance of sports activities for students through such events, pointing to expanding avenues of cooperation with external institutions and organizations interested in sports and physical activity. He affirmed that Kuwait University is committed to strengthening its role in sports as an academic and educational institution.

For his part, Mr. Talal Suleiman Al-Rashdan, Vice President of Public Relations and Media at Kuwait Investment Company, stated that such partnerships enhance investment in youth potential through sports and cultural competitions. He added that supporting Kuwaiti youth is an integral part of the company’s strategic plan.

On the organizational front, the event featured participation from the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences, the Public Authority for Sport, the Emergency Medical Services, and Abdullah Al-Salem University. The Ministry of Interior’s Music Band and the Yemeni Band contributed with patriotic performances prior to the announcement of results, adding a national spirit to the event. The Mopar International Car Team also showcased classic cars next to Al-Dana Hall, offering entertainment for attendees and participants. Additionally, archery and steps competitions were organized under the supervision of the Public Authority for Sport.

The marathon concluded with honoring the top three winners in each category. Haya Al-Refai claimed first place in the women’s category with a time of 18:53, while Ismail Khareji secured first place in the men’s category with a time of 14:16.
In the category for participants from outside the university aged 36 and above, Ali Al-Fawzan and Rola Al-Ezza won first place.
For participants aged 35 and below, Salma Saifuddin and Shahama Al-Nasrallah took first place.
As for the race for Kuwait University affiliates, in the age group 36 and above, Zamil Al-Khaldi and Rawan Al-Aidan earned first place, while in the age group 35 and below, Khaled Al-Harbi and Suad Al-Faqaan won first place in the KU community category.
