Kuwait National Robotics Championship Holds Competitive Qualifying Rounds Organized Jointly by Kuwait University and the Youth Public Authority

Prof. Al-Mailem: Kuwait University Serves as an Incubator for Scientific Projects in STEM Fields and Supports Youth Capabilities to Keep Pace with Developments in the Digital World


The competitive events of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship were launched at Sabah Al-Salem University City, with the participation of more than 140 teams comprising over 700 male and female students from various educational stages. The championship is jointly organized by Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Youth, within the framework of supporting applied education and enhancing students’ skills in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
On this occasion, the President of Kuwait University, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, affirmed during her visit to the championship competitions that Kuwait University serves as an incubator for scientific projects in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), noting that the University supports youth talents to keep pace with developments in the digital world.
Prof. Al-Mailem added that the championship aims to strengthen the role of the State of Kuwait in international technological forums, as well as to motivate emerging generations toward innovation and to develop distinguished national competencies in the field of electronic innovations.
She also expressed her satisfaction with the level of competition among the different age groups participating in the championship, praising the role of national partnerships in providing an appropriate environment for developing young talents.
For his part, the Acting Dean of the College of Science at Kuwait University, Prof. Haider Behbehani, explained that the qualifying competition for primary and intermediate school students (VEX IQ) witnessed significant turnout. He commended the participating talents from various age groups who are competing to qualify for the World Championship in the United States of America next May, with the aim of elevating Kuwait’s international standing in the field of technology.
Meanwhile, the Acting Director of the Youth Public Authority Ghazi Al-Jallawi, emphasized the importance of investing in youth to achieve Kuwait Vision 2035, adding that the Authority firmly believes that investing in youth is an investment in Kuwait’s future. He also praised the efforts of Kuwait University and its partners in contributing to the success of the championships held annually.
In turn, the Acting Head of the Computer Science Department at Kuwait University, Dr. Zaid Dashti, stated that the championship was launched as an initiative by the Computer Science Department at the College of Science. He noted that it achieved remarkable global successes over the past two years, winning the Best Robot Build Award worldwide in its first year, and in its second year, one of the participating teams won the Judge Award. He expressed his hopes for further global achievements in the current edition of the championship.
Dr. Dashti added that the championship, now in its third year, is witnessing distinguished participation aspiring to qualify for the global competition in the United States. He noted that the competitions among participating teams will continue, with the final results to be announced at the championship’s closing ceremony on February 11.
It is worth noting that the Kuwait National Robotics Championship is held through a strategic partnership with Zain Telecommunications Company and Al-Sayer Group, with support from Warba Bank, and an educational partnership with Kuwait Technical College and Kuwait College of Science and Technology. This collaboration aims to enhance the objectives of the initiative and ensure its success, reflecting a genuine national partnership between the educational sector, the youth sector, and the private sector in serving the future of Kuwait.
