Kuwait University’s College of Graduate Studies held an orientation meeting on Monday for new students for the 2026–2027 academic year under the theme “A Research Journey Towards Excellence and Innovation.” The event was held under the patronage of Kuwait University President Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem and attended by academic leaders and new graduate students.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the University President, Acting Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, Prof. Mishal Khalaf Al-Ghuraib stated that the University is welcoming 555 new graduate students this academic year, including 513 students enrolled in master’s programs and 42 in doctoral programs.

Prof. Al-Ghuraib emphasized that graduate studies are a fundamental pillar of the University’s research ecosystem, playing a key role in advancing scholarly output, developing national talent, addressing issues of importance to society, and providing knowledge and solutions that support the development process.

He added that the College of Graduate Studies is committed to enhancing the quality of its programs and fostering a stimulating academic and research environment that supports students throughout their academic journey and develops their capabilities, contributing to Kuwait University’s strategic objectives of advancing research and knowledge production.

For her part, Acting Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Iman Tawfiq Al-Sharhan outlined the responsibilities of the Student Affairs Department, as well as admission and registration procedures, academic progress monitoring, and the services provided to students and graduates.

Acting Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. Hussain Mahdi Behbahani discussed procedures related to student research, including research funding mechanisms, approval of supervision and research plans, the formation of examination and thesis defense committees, and graduation procedures for master’s and doctoral programs. He encouraged students to regularly check the College’s portal and website for the latest updates and information on academic procedures.

The orientation concluded with an open discussion, during which students’ questions and inquiries regarding graduate programs were addressed.
