Kuwait University, in collaboration with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity, one of the centers of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), concluded the University Preparation, Readiness, and Introduction to Scientific Academic Majors (PRE 2026) program for secondary school students. Held under the patronage of Kuwait University President, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, the program took place from August 2 to 13, 2026, with the participation of more than 65 students.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the President of Kuwait University, Vice President for Research, Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan, conveyed the President's greetings and congratulations to the participating students, wishing them continued success and achievement. He emphasized that the program's continuation for a second consecutive year reflects the success of its inaugural edition and the strong interest it has generated.
Prof. Sultan explained that Kuwait University believes its role extends beyond providing higher education to strengthening community partnerships, building bridges with students across different educational stages, and helping them discover their academic interests and capabilities, thereby enabling them to make more informed decisions regarding their academic and professional futures.
He added that, over the course of two weeks, the program provided students with the opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to the fields of medicine and engineering through both theoretical and practical experiences. He noted that 23 students participated in the College of Engineering and Petroleum track, while 40 students joined the College of Medicine track, praising their enthusiasm and determination to explore new scientific horizons.
Prof. Sultan also expressed his appreciation to the faculty members and program organizers for their dedication in delivering a meaningful educational experience. He congratulated the participants on their accomplishments and wished them continued success and fruitful future contributions to the service of Kuwait.
The program offered a comprehensive academic experience that combined specialized lectures, workshops, hands-on experiments, field visits, and direct interaction with academics and specialists in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The Medicine track included specialized workshops and practical training on the use of medical equipment, emergency response procedures, visits to the medical library and hospitals, as well as training in laparoscopic surgery, simulation-based surgery, laboratory demonstrations, and interactive sessions with practicing physicians. The Engineering track featured lectures and practical activities in architecture, engineering competitions, technical experiments, field visits to the Ahmed Al-Jaber Oil and Gas Exhibition and The Scientific Center, in addition to activities involving 3D printing and the use of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines.
The closing ceremony was attended by Prof. Adnan Taher Abul, Acting Dean of the College of Medicine; Dr. Abdullah Sayed Ahmed Ibrahim, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum; Nada Al-Daihani, Director General of the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity; in addition to a number of faculty members and program organizers.
The program concluded with a presentation highlighting the students' experiences and achievements throughout the program, followed by honoring participants and presenting them with certificates of participation in recognition of their commitment and active engagement.
