The first annual meeting of the joint cooperation agreement between Kuwait University and the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), along with its subsidiaries, in the field of Enterprise Risk Management, was held on the morning of Monday, May 12, 2025, at the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) Theater. This meeting served as a follow-up and coordination session for the agreement signed in 2023 by the President of Kuwait University and representatives from KPC and its affiliated companies. The event was organized by the Office of the Assistant Dean for Planning, Consultation, and Training and represented by members of the main committee responsible for monitoring the implementation of the agreement from the College of Life Sciences.
The meeting began with a documentary video showcasing the signing of the agreement in 2023 between Kuwait University and the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries. Following the video, Dr. Mohammad Al-Shawaf, a member of the main implementation committee and representative of Kuwait University, delivered a speech in which he expressed his gratitude to the corporation for providing valuable field training opportunities for Kuwait University students.
He noted that the agreement was founded on mutual trust between the academic and petroleum sectors and is built upon four main objectives. These include promoting a culture of risk and raising awareness across the petroleum sector to enable the effective implementation of risk management practices, developing national talents in the field of risk management and its various dimensions, enhancing the global presence of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation as a leader in enterprise risk management, and fostering joint collaboration to deliver training programs. He added that some of these objectives have already been achieved, most notably the successful implementation of student training initiatives. He concluded by thanking everyone who contributed to the success of this collaboration.
It is worth noting that students Manar Al-Ajmi and Dana Al-Bakheet from the Department of Information Science at the College of Life Sciences received training at the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. In line with the terms of the agreement, students from the Department of Environmental Science will also undergo training during the upcoming summer semester.
The meeting concluded with a review of the agenda items and suggestions presented during the session, along with expressions of appreciation for all sectors that participated in and contributed to the success of the agreement.
