The Cultural Committee in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature organized a lecture titled “Manifestations of Elevated Places in Nabati Poetry”, delivered by Dr. Hamad Al-Ajmi and moderated by Acting Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Mohammad Al-Qanaie. The event was attended by the Committee Rapporteur, Prof. Nouria Al-Roumi, and took place on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Theater of the South Campus of College of Arts, with a number of faculty members and interested students present.

The lecture explored the various contexts in which elevation appears in Nabati poetry, explaining how it is employed in expressions of sorrow, anticipation, awe, desire, pride, and joy.
Dr. Al-Ajmi presented examples illustrating each usage, explaining that elevation serves as a metaphor for rising above sorrow — a form of resisting natural constraints and existential isolation — where one’s sadness is eased as everything appears smaller beneath, and geographical distance from others is created.

He added that this concept also has a spiritual dimension, as ascending to remote, elevated locations brings one closer to Allah.

At the end of the event, the Committee Rapporteur, Prof. Nouria Al-Roumi, honored Dr. Hamad Al-Ajmi for enriching the cultural season of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature with this lecture.
