Prof. Al-Mailem: Kuwait University Is a Nurturing Environment for Innovation and Excellence and a Fundamental Pillar of Developmental Renaissance
In the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Nader Abdullah Al-Jallal, and under the patronage and attendance of the President of Kuwait University, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, Sabah Al-Salem University City witnessed an exceptional national celebration that embodied the highest meanings of unity and solidarity among the people of Kuwait. The event was marked by a proud national atmosphere imbued with a strong sense of belonging and deep love for Kuwait.
Kuwait University organized a major national celebration on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the National Day and the 35th anniversary of Liberation Day, under the slogan “Forever Proud, O My Homeland, and a Cradle of Knowledge,” held over two days on 4 and 5 February 2026. The celebration featured a diverse national, cultural, and heritage program reflecting profound national pride and a strong sense of identity.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials, ambassadors of brotherly and friendly countries, prominent figures in the arts and culture, in addition to a large gathering of Kuwait University leadership, college deans, faculty members, supporting academic staff, and administrative personnel from various colleges, departments, and centers of the University.
The celebration was further distinguished by the participation of approximately 80 governmental entities and state institutions, alongside private sector organizations, with the support of Zain, Warba Bank, National Bank of Kuwait, and Weyay Bank, reflecting a model of societal partnership and national integration.
The festivities commenced with the performance of the State of Kuwait National Anthem, followed by an opening address delivered by the master of ceremonies, Dr. Haya Faisal Al-Sammar, a faculty member in the Department of Biological Sciences at the College of Science, Kuwait University. In her address, she highlighted the importance of national holidays in commemorating the sacrifices of forefathers, renewing the meanings of belonging, and raising the banner of Kuwait with pride under the wise leadership, affirming the significance of this occasion in the nation’s journey.
On this occasion, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, President of Kuwait University, extended her highest congratulations and best wishes to His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, may God protect him, to His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, may God preserve him, and to the noble Kuwaiti people on the 65th National Day and the 35th Liberation Day anniversaries. She emphasized that national occasions serve as illuminating milestones to recall the core values upon which the State of Kuwait was founded, foremost among them knowledge, education, and sincere work.
Prof. Al-Mailem noted that Kuwait University’s participation in national celebrations stems from its pioneering role as the oldest academic institution in the country and its ongoing commitment to supporting comprehensive national development. She explained that the University constitutes a fundamental pillar in the developmental renaissance by preparing national competencies equipped with scientific and practical skills, stressing that the University’s educational mission represents a national trust and responsibility in shaping future leaders.
She further expressed deep appreciation for the wise leadership that has placed the Kuwaiti citizen at the heart of development plans, contributing to making Kuwait University a
nurturing environment for innovation and excellence. She affirmed that the academic and research achievements accomplished by the University’s affiliates represent essential building blocks in strengthening Kuwait’s standing among nations. Prof. Al-Mailem also commended the supporting and participating entities in this national celebration, recognizing their role in reinforcing community partnership among state institutions.
Participating in the celebration was the distinguished composer and President of the Kuwaiti Artists Association, Anwar Abdullah Sulaiman, a prominent symbol of musical creativity in Kuwait. He praised the efforts embraced by this esteemed academic institution, which embodied the meanings of love and pride for the homeland, expressing his appreciation for the gracious invitation and the honor bestowed upon him during this national academic event that reflects the highest values of belonging and pride in Kuwait.
The ceremony also featured the recitation of a national Nabati poem expressing feelings of pride and devotion to the homeland, delivered by student Khaled Al-Arrak from the College of Arts. Additionally, the Ministry of Education participated actively through a distinguished national performance presented by Maimouna Bint Al-Harith Primary School for Girls in Jahra Governorate, where students showcased artistic performances expressing their love for Kuwait.
The celebration was accompanied by a national musical performance by the brass bands of the Ministry of Interior, featuring patriotic compositions that captivated the audience and added a distinctive festive atmosphere.
At the conclusion of the event, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, together with His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Nader Abdullah Al-Jallal, honored the supporting entities and official sponsors, foremost among them Zain, Warba Bank, National Bank of Kuwait, and Weyay Bank, in addition to recognizing the participants in the event.
The celebration concluded with a grand student national parade in which Kuwait University students participated, expressing their joy, pride, and deep devotion to the beloved homeland.
On the sidelines of the celebration, a national heritage exhibition and a cultural exhibition were held over two consecutive days, serving as supportive platforms for student talents and community participation, with active involvement from student clubs at Kuwait University. The exhibitions showcased aspects of Kuwait’s rich history and achievements through various pavilions organized by the University’s colleges and several governmental and private entities, reflecting cultural richness, social diversity, and reinforcing national identity and interaction within the university community.
It is worth noting that this celebration was organized by the Public Relations and Media Department at Kuwait University, affirming the University’s leading role in strengthening national belonging, fostering cooperation among members of the university community, and actively participating in the celebration of cherished national occasions.
