In an Achievement that Reinforces the University’s Vision for Excellence and Innovation
Two teams from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Kuwait University qualified for the finals of the GPCA Carbon Neutrality Cup 2025, selected from over 70 participating teams representing universities across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The two projects were: Heal Cycle, represented by engineering students Nada Al-Sanadi and Noura Al-Enezi, and CODA, represented by engineering students Dima Al-Otaibi and Dina Al-Otaibi. Both projects were supervised by Dr. Husain Ashkanani.
The CODA project, presented by Dima and Dina Al-Otaibi, secured first place in the undergraduate student project category—becoming the first Kuwaiti project to attain this distinction since the competition’s inception. This milestone exemplifies the Department of Chemical Engineering’s excellence at Kuwait University and its leadership in fostering innovation and sustainable student initiatives.
The GPCA Carbon Neutrality Cup, organized by the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA), was held in the Kingdom of Bahrain from October 13 to 15, 2025. It is regarded as one of the leading competitions in the Gulf region, aiming to engage engineering and science students in developing practical solutions that contribute to achieving carbon neutrality.
Participants were required to submit projects addressing one of three core areas: energy efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, or innovative waste management—reflecting the new generation of engineers’ commitment to promoting sustainability principles and the circular economy throughout the region.
