Tokyo Governor Explores Avenues of Academic and Cultural Cooperation During Her Visit to Kuwait University
Kuwait University President, Prof. Dina Musaed Al Mailem, received Her Excellency Ms. Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo, at Sabah Al-Salem University City on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in the presence of a number of university officials. The visit aimed to discuss ways of enhancing academic and cultural cooperation between the two sides.
On this occasion, Prof. Dina Musaed Al Mailem welcomed the Governor of Tokyo and her accompanying delegation, emphasizing that this visit reflects the depth of the distinguished historical relations between the State of Kuwait and Japan. She affirmed that such meetings strengthen academic, cultural, and scientific collaboration, contributing to the exchange of expertise and the development of capabilities in the fields of higher education, scientific research, and innovation.
Prof. Al Mailem noted that Kuwait University is keen to foster international cooperation with leading academic institutions around the world, in line with its vision of achieving excellence and research leadership, and reinforcing its position as a national institution that contributes to sustainable development, consistent with the “New Kuwait 2035” vision.
For her part, the Governor of Tokyo, Ms. Yuriko Koike, expressed her appreciation for the warm reception she received at Kuwait University. She commended the academic and research advancements achieved by the university, as well as the significant educational and infrastructural development that reflects Kuwait’s commitment to advancing education and scientific research. She further emphasized that this visit represents an important opportunity to enhance academic and cultural cooperation between the two friendly nations, and to promote the exchange of expertise in areas of mutual interest—particularly innovation, sustainability, and women’s empowerment.
The visit included discussions on strengthening academic and cultural partnerships between Kuwait University and higher education institutions in Japan, especially in the fields of clean energy, environment, and sustainable development.
At the conclusion of the visit, Prof. Dina Musaed Al Mailem expressed her appreciation for this important occasion, which reinforces the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations and reaffirms Kuwait University’s leading and longstanding role in supporting academic and cultural relations, as well as its active contribution as a national institution to achieving sustainable development.
