Kuwait University Council held its meeting No. (2026/01) remotely under the chairmanship of the University President, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, on the morning of Wednesday, April 22, 2026. The University President affirmed that Kuwait University continues to perform its academic and national mission efficiently and regularly under the current circumstances, reflecting its commitment to its educational responsibilities in light of the directives of the wise leadership, may Allah protect them, reflecting its strategic pillars based on quality, sustainability, innovation, and distinguished presence.
Prof. Al-Mailem pointed the importance of all University members' adherence to the distance learning regulations, which clarify the rights and obligations of the University administration, faculty members, supporting academic staff, and students, and cover all related topics and the circulars issued accordingly since the beginning of the current crisis, with emphasis on continuing their implementation and maintaining coordination in this regard with the relevant authorities in the country, reflecting the University’s approach to institutional governance and crisis management.
The University President affirmed the continuation of distance learning for all lectures and midterm examinations until further notice in order to ensure everyone’s safety, praising the efforts of faculty members, supporting academic staff, administrative staff, and students in supporting the continuity of the educational process efficiently and regularly, wishing students success and prosperity.
She also expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to the frontline workers in all sectors for their efforts in serving Kuwait and safeguarding its security and stability.
In a statement following the meeting, the Acting Secretary-General of Kuwait University and the official spokesperson of the University, Prof. Thaqal Saad Al-Ajmi, stated that the University Council approved the admission policy at Kuwait University for the academic year 2026–2027, and it will be submitted to the Council of Public Universities for approval as part of the national admission policy in a manner that enhances the quality of educational outcomes.
He added that the Council approved an amendment to the distance learning regulations to allow final examinations to be conducted remotely unless the College Council and the University Council decide otherwise, according to what serves the academic interest and supports the flexibility and sustainability of the educational process.
Prof. Al-Ajmi stated that the Council approved the memorandum of understanding between Kuwait University, represented by the Department of Philosophy at the College of Arts, and the Free University of Berlin in the Federal Republic of Germany. It also approved the memorandum of understanding between Kuwait University, represented by the College of Arts, and Al Wasl University in the United Arab Emirates.
He also stated that the Council approved the proposal of the Deanship of Admission and Registration to extend the withdrawal period from courses, the academic semester, or the academic year for students under the year-based system (College of Law) until the last day of classes, except for students of the College of Law, where the grace period will extend until the end of the examination period, on an exceptional basis during the second semester (2025–2026), in consideration of the current circumstances.
He added that the Council approved the promotion of 23 members of the academic staff in scientific, humanities, and social colleges to the ranks of Professor and Associate Professor.
Prof. Al-Ajmi affirmed that Kuwait University continues to develop its academic and administrative system within the framework of its strategic pillars in a way that enhances its academic standing and role in serving the community, asking Almighty Allah to protect Kuwait, its leadership, government, people, and residents from all harm.
