About
Established in 1966, the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DEES) at Kuwait University started as the Geology Department by offering BSc and MSc degrees in geology. In keeping up with the developments in the field and the expansion of the subfields in Environmental Sciences and Sustainability, the department took the shape that it is in today in 1999. The programs offered by the department expanded to offer more interdisciplinary degrees such as Environmental Sciences, Petroleum Geosciences, and Desert Science.
The DEES provides education in theoretical and applied aspects of Earth science and its environments at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Students graduating from DEES can expect to have wide employment opportunities in oil/gas sectors, hydrology and environmental management sectors, sustainable energy, agricultural and educational sectors, forensic and medical geoscience sectors, and in academic pursuits.

تأسّس قسم علوم الأرض والبيئة (DEES) في جامعة الكويت عام 1966، حيث بدأ كقسم للجيولوجيا من خلال تقديم درجتي البكالوريوس والماجستير في الجيولوجيا ، ومواكبةً للتطورات في هذا المجال والتوسّع في الحقول الفرعية لعلوم البيئة والاستدامة اتّخذ القسم شكله الحالي عام 1999 فتوسّعت البرامج التي يقدّمها القسم لتشمل درجات أكثر تعدّدًا في التخصصات ، مثل علوم البيئة ، وعلوم جيولوجيا البترول ، وعلوم الصحراء.
يوفّر قسم علوم الأرض والبيئة تعليمًا في الجوانب النظرية والتطبيقية لعلوم الأرض وبيئاتها على مستويي البكالوريوس والدراسات العليا ، ويمكن لخريجي القسم أن يتوقّعوا فرص عمل واسعة في قطاعات النفط والغاز، وقطاعات الهيدرولوجيا والإدارة البيئية ، والطاقة المستدامة ، والقطاعات الزراعية والتعليمية ، إضافةً إلى المسارات الأكاديمية في الدراسات العليا.
