Nine student teams, comprising 40 students from various academic levels across Kuwait, are set to represent the country at the VEX Robotics World Championship 2025, to be held in Dallas, USA, from May 6 to 14, 2025. This participation follows their qualification through the Kuwait National Robotics Championship (KNRC), organized by the Department of Computer Science at the College of Science – Kuwait University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Public Authority for Youth, and with strategic support from private sector partners: Zain Kuwait, Al-Sayer Group, Kuwait Technical College (as the educational partner), and Warba Bank (as the gold sponsor).
The national championship saw intense competition among more than 700 students from schools across Kuwait. As a result, nine outstanding teams were selected to represent Kuwait in various divisions, including elementary, middle, high school, and university levels. Over the past months, participating students—particularly from the lower academic levels—underwent intensive training at Kuwait University, under the direct supervision of faculty members from the Department of Computer Science, led by Dr. Noura Al-Jeri, Executive Director of the Championship. Dr. Al-Jeri emphasized that the main goal of this initiative is to enhance students’ skills in artificial intelligence, programming, and engineering design, while also promoting innovation and teamwork.
This year’s global championship will host over 2,000 teams from approximately 60 countries, making it the world’s largest educational robotics competition platform. Kuwait’s qualification is a significant achievement, reflecting the remarkable progress of Kuwaiti youth in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and highlights the success of partnerships between academic institutions, government bodies, and the private sector in supporting student innovation.
The educational journey of Kuwait’s robotics teams included rigorous training in robot construction, programming, engineering path analysis, and competitive strategy, as well as the development of leadership and problem-solving skills within global competitive environments. These training programs were carefully designed to align with international competition standards and the aspirations of New Kuwait Vision 2035.
This participation is part of Kuwait University’s broader mission to support society and empower youth at all academic levels—including school and university students—by fostering a creative and innovative learning environment that contributes to preparing a scientifically and technically distinguished generation poised to shape the future of the university and the knowledge-based society in Kuwait.
