Deanship of Student Affairs Promotes Sustainability and Preventive Awareness in University Housing through “Recycling & Plants Day” and "Fire Safety" Awareness Events
In line with Kuwait University’s commitment to fostering environmental sustainability and social responsibility, and in accordance with its strategy to cultivate a safe and conscious campus environment, the Deanship of Student Affairs, represented by the Department of Student Housing and International Student Affairs, organized two initiatives in the university residence halls: “Recycling & Plants Day” and the Fire Safety Awareness Program". These activities integrate both environmental and safety dimensions into students’ daily campus life.
The “Recycling & Plants Day”, held under the slogan “Bring It Back to Life” on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, at the women’s student housing, featured participation from multiple entities offering a range of activities designed to promote recycling culture, enhance environmental awareness, and encourage students to adopt sustainable practices within the residence halls. The event included practical workshops on repurposing materials and revitalizing plants innovatively, reinforcing the principles of waste reduction and resource preservation, and reflecting the university’s commitment to sustainability initiatives on campus.
In a related initiative, and under the patronage of Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Jassim Mohammed Al-Hamdan, the Student Activities Department of the Department of Student Housing and International Student Affairs organized an awareness program on fires and emergencies in collaboration with the General Fire Force, represented by the Public Relations and Media Department. The program took place in the university housing with notable student attendance.
The initiative reflects the department’s dedication to instilling a culture of safety among students and raising their awareness of how to respond to emergency situations. Major Ahmed Mansour Boushehri delivered a comprehensive lecture covering the principles of protection against fire risk, prevention methods, and appropriate response procedures, highlighting key measures to enhance students’ preparedness and ensure their safety.
The program also included a practical demonstration conducted by the General Fire Force team, showcasing firefighting and rescue equipment, alongside hands-on training for students on using fire extinguishers. This interactive training strengthened students’ confidence in handling emergencies and reinforced the concept of sustainability from the perspective of safety, preservation of life, and property protection.
The events were attended by Nabil Mohammed Al-Mufreh, Supervisor of the Department of Student Housing and International Student Affairs; Ibrahim Shehab Al-Shehab, Head of the Student Activities Department; and Rakan Ghazi Al-Matar, Student Activities Department. The events were closely overseen by Faleh Sanad Al-Masoud, Director of the Department of Student Housing and International Student Affairs, who emphasized that these programs reflect the university’s core responsibility toward its students, and that promoting environmental and preventive awareness is a central pillar of sustainable campus life.
Al-Masoud expressed his gratitude to all participating KU departments supporting these initiatives, including the Housing and Furnishing Administration, Security and Safety Department, General Services Administration, Libraries Department, and Public Relations and Media Department, noting that this institutional collaboration underscores the university’s commitment to providing an integrated, safe, and sustainable learning and residential environment that aligns with its strategic goals of promoting sustainability and student well-being.
At the conclusion of the awareness program, Faleh Sanad Al-Masoud presented commemorative plaques to Major Ahmed Mansour Boushehri and the General Fire Force team in recognition of their substantial efforts and active contribution to the program’s success, which left a tangible impact on enhancing students’ awareness and ability to respond to emergencies confidently and responsibly.
