
In the presence of Dr. Amina Rajab Farhan, Director General of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), Prof. Ahmad Rashid Al-Lafi, Acting Dean of the College of Life Sciences, and ambassadors of the participating countries, the opening ceremony of the eighth edition of the "Science Generation 2025 – Adults Edition" was held on Sunday, July 20, 2025. The program is launched by KFAS in collaboration with Kuwait University and hosted by the College of Life Sciences.
This edition is distinguished by the participation of more than 100 students from Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to the first-time inclusion of students from the Sultanate of Oman.
On this occasion, Prof. Ahmad Rashid Al-Lafi, Acting Dean of the College of Life Sciences, delivered a welcoming speech in which he emphasized that Kuwait University is a pioneering academic institution that has always supported scientific and knowledge-based initiatives and embraced ambitious young talents. He stated that organizing this program stems from the University’s belief that youth are the essence of the future, and that science is the bridge they must cross towards the future. He described the event as a valuable opportunity to meet a group of exceptional students who are driven by curiosity and passion and are eager to make a difference. He concluded his remarks by saying: “Supporting science is a guaranteed investment.”
In this context, Ms. Shaimaa Al-Turkait, Country Director of Google Cloud – Kuwait, delivered a speech in which she shared her inspiring journey, highlighting the importance of encouraging research and supporting researchers. She also addressed the vital role of technology and artificial intelligence in supporting education and research, stressing the need to seize life-changing opportunities such as this initiative, which brings together students and faculty members with innovative ideas, creativity, and vast knowledge.
Engineer Majed Al-Munaifi also delivered a speech, in which he spoke about the program’s role in igniting his passion for science and engineering. He urged the participating students to persevere, work hard, and take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the program. Notably, Eng. Al-Munaifi began his journey as a participant in the first edition of the program, later graduating from the Academy for Talented Students affiliated with KFAS. He then earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer Science from Duke University and has recently been accepted into the master’s program in Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. This year, he joined the organizing team of the event.
It is worth noting that the Youth Science Generation program targets students aged 15 to 18 who have successfully passed the admission assessments. The program aims to strengthen their scientific and leadership skills and empower them to disseminate scientific knowledge within their communities. This season is distinguished by the addition of field visits to scientific, research, and applied institutions, offering participants a rich hands-on experience that deepens their understanding and broadens their scientific and professional horizons.
