In a visual presentation at the Center for Government Communication, Prof. Nourah Al-Suwaih: Kuwait University Continues to Strengthen Its Research Standing in Line with Strategic Directions

Prof. Nourah Al-Suwaih, Acting Secretary General and Vice President for Health Sciences at Kuwait University, delivered a comprehensive visual presentation at the Center for Government Communication. She presented the University’s major accomplishments in education, research, sustainability, and campus services, in the presence of Dr. Abdullah Al-Mutawa – Vice President for Academic Support Services, Prof. Abdulrahman Al-Suleili – Assistant Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Cultural Relations, Mr. Suleiman Al-Rafie – Assistant Vice President for Evaluation and Assessment, Dr. Mohammed Al-Marzouq – Assistant Vice President for Information Technology, Dr. Mabkhout Al-Dosari – Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, Dr. Majed Abdulrazzaq Majeed – Assistant Vice President for Campus Planning, Dr. Dalal Al-Taweel – Assistant Vice President for Planning and Institutional Development, Mr. Mishari Al-Nahedh – Assistant Vice President for Strategic Planning, and Ms. Anoud Al-Rashidi – Director of Public Relations and Media and Liaison with the Government Communication Center. This took place within the framework of the University’s efforts to consolidate principles of quality and innovation and to strengthen its national and international presence in line with its strategic directions.

Regarding global research excellence, the presentation highlighted the inclusion of 47 KU faculty members in the 2025 Stanford list of the world’s most influential scientists, an achievement reflecting the strength of the University’s scientific output and the advancement of its research and innovation system. The presentation also included 87 registered patents and the implementation of more than 5,104 funded research projects, including 475 externally funded studies, which confirms the University’s role as a national hub for knowledge production and scientific research development, translating its strategic orientation towards innovation and enhancing its position on the global research spectrum.

Prof. Al-Suwaih also addressed academic development, reviewing the expansion of newly introduced programs that meet labor market needs, such as Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, in addition to specialized graduate programs in Media, Anthropology, and Criminal Law. These programs enhance the quality of academic outcomes and support the University’s strategic direction towards preparing graduates capable of competing and innovating.

The presentation further covered aspects of academic accreditation and scientific achievements during the past period, including the Faculty of Pharmacy receiving Canadian accreditation for the Doctor of Pharmacy program in June 2024, renewal of accreditation for the Department of Occupational Therapy in the College of Allied Health Sciences by the World Federation of Occupational Therapy until 2031, and the recommendation to renew accreditation for the College of Business Administration for six years from AACSB. It also included a comprehensive update of graduation program sheets at the College of Life Sciences, ensuring academic programs align with international accreditation requirements. All these steps reinforce the University’s focus on quality and enhance the efficiency of its academic system.

The presentation also highlighted the University’s scientific achievements, including the KuwaitSat-1 satellite, which continues to capture prominent space images, alongside organizing a total lunar eclipse observation event in collaboration between the Physics Department and the Kuwait National Space Research Center under the sponsorship of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). This emphasizes the University’s role in promoting scientific culture and providing opportunities to observe astronomical phenomena, consistent with its aim to expand its scientific and societal role.

Regarding the integrated campus environment, the presentation covered projects at Sabah Al-Salem University City, including the opening of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies (North and South buildings) and the College of Law for the academic year 2024/2025, in addition to the relocation of student dorms to the University City. Prof. Al-Suwaih also reviewed the launch of the internal electric mobility system (CarbinLine), using vehicles equipped for students and individuals with disabilities, air-conditioned, and environmentally friendly, along with the approval of the CarbinLine guidelines. This develops a sustainable learning environment that considers student safety and comfort in line with the University’s strategic direction towards sustainability and improved campus infrastructure efficiency.

The presentation also highlighted the University’s digital transformation efforts, including the digitization of medical records, implementation of a data classification system, development of advanced electronic services, and the ICT3 Smart Campus project, which represents a modern shift in managing campus operations and services and supports the University’s adoption of innovation and modern technologies.

Additionally, Prof. Al-Suwaih presented the University’s achievements in community responsibility and international partnerships through signing targeted memoranda of understanding with local, regional, and global institutions, activating scientific centers to serve national issues, and student accomplishments in global competitions, such as the Administrative Sciences College winning the CFA Research Challenge. These accomplishments enhance the University’s regional and international presence according to its strategic orientation towards strengthening academic identity and expanding partnerships.

Prof. Al-Suwaih concluded the presentation by emphasizing that these diverse achievements reflect Kuwait University’s commitment to its national mission in developing education and scientific research, enhancing its regional and international standing, and building a sustainable university environment that meets state aspirations and societal and labor market needs. This is in accordance with the directives of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, supporting the comprehensive development path and enhancing the University’s readiness to achieve its strategic priorities in the upcoming phase.
