Within the Framework of Strengthening International Partnerships and Supporting Environmental Issues
In a step aimed at broadening the horizons of academic and research collaboration and reinforcing the role of Kuwait University in the field of environmental sustainability, the College of Science at Kuwait University has concluded an agreement with the King’s Foundation to launch two pioneering initiatives. These initiatives include the organization of a “Sustainability Summit” and the establishment of a research exchange program between the two institutions.
The agreement stipulates the organization of a three-day “Sustainability Summit” to be hosted at the College of Science, with the objective of enriching academic engagement and enhancing environmental awareness within the university campus. The summit is scheduled to feature workshops and interactive lectures delivered by a distinguished group of specialists and experts from both the King’s Foundation and Kuwait University.
Furthermore, both parties agreed to activate a research exchange program between the two institutions to support researchers working in areas of mutual interest, thereby contributing to the advancement of sustainable development efforts.
The Kuwait University working team comprised several faculty members, namely:
Dr. Jasser Al-Jasser; Dr. Hussein Behbehani, Head of the Department of Biological Sciences; Dr. Suad Al-Mazrooei; Dr. Basma; in addition to other faculty members from the Department of Biological Sciences, and Dr. Reem Al-Awadhi, a faculty member from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
The visiting delegation from the King’s Foundation included a select group of experts, as follows:
• Jacqueline Farrell: Director of Education, overseeing all practical programs related to the collaboration, with the exception of academic research activities.
• Dr. Wilf Middleton: Associate Researcher in Architecture and Urban Planning, with a focus on academic research in agriculture and craft-based activities.
• Ashleigh Douglas: Head of Future Textiles Methodologies, responsible for supervising all textile-related activities, with particular emphasis on the wool regeneration project, which will culminate in a public conference in 2026.
• Heather McPike: Senior Lecturer in Agricultural Methodologies and Rural Skills, and coordinator of relations with the agricultural sector.
