Within the Framework of Developing Students’ Leadership Skills and Promoting a Culture of Constructive Dialogue College of Education Team Wins the Eleventh Edition of Kuwait University Debate League Final for the Academic Year 2025/2026

Kuwait University concluded the final round of the Eleventh Edition of the Debate League for the academic year 2025/2026 on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, at the Theater of the College of Life Sciences, in the presence of distinguished academic and administrative figures, along with a large gathering of students interested in dialogue and intellectual engagement.

The final round was attended by the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Salem Matroud Al-Shammari; the Acting Dean of the College of Education, Prof. Eisa Al-Balhan; the Director of the Student Housing and International Students Affairs Department, Mr. Faleh Al-Masoud; the Chief Debate Officer, Dr. Nawal Ishaq; and Mr. Ghazi Al-Jallawi, Acting Deputy Director General for Youth Activities Affairs, in addition to several representatives from the Public Authority for Youth, who emphasized the importance of promoting scientific dialogue and strengthening students’ critical thinking skills.

The final debate brought together the teams of the College of Education and the College of Science, where both teams discussed the motion:
“This House believes that the use of artificial intelligence tools such as (ChatGPT) in writing university research papers is a necessary technical skill rather than academic misconduct.”

The round was marked by enthusiasm and a high level of professionalism, as both teams presented in-depth arguments supported by logical reasoning and real-world evidence, along with strong rebuttals that reflected advanced levels of preparation and training. The theater witnessed a highly competitive atmosphere and strong audience engagement, demonstrating the maturity of the debate experience at the University.

At the conclusion of the round, the judging panel announced the victory of the Proposition Team from the College of Education, which claimed the Debate League title in its eleventh edition after an outstanding performance that impressed the panel, earning the championship trophy amid widespread praise for both teams’ performance.

The top ten speakers of the tournament were also honored in recognition of their excellence in argumentation, persuasion, and stage presence:

  4. Raghad Al-Ajeel – College of Medicine

  7. Seeta Abdullah Al-Ajmi – College of Life Sciences
  8. Shaikha Mishaal Al-Dhafiri – College of Science
  9. Noor Al-Ajeel – College of Medicine
  10. Taif Yousef – College of Life Sciences

     

In addition, the Higher Debate Committee was honored in recognition of their organizational and supervisory efforts that contributed to the success of this distinguished edition. The judging panel from the National Debate Team was also recognized for their professionalism and pivotal role in managing and adjudicating the rounds with neutrality and expertise, acknowledging their contributions to enhancing the quality of competition and reinforcing standards of integrity and objectivity in judging.

The organization of the Debate League comes within the strategy of the Deanship of Student Affairs at Kuwait University, which aims to develop students’ leadership skills, promote a culture of constructive dialogue, and encourage respect for diverse perspectives. This aligns with contemporary intellectual challenges and contributes to preparing an aware generation capable of analysis and responsible, objective discussion.
